Specific Question: I figure I have a good chance of an interview at JMP. Am I correct in that after that it all depends 100% on how that interview goes? Is it known on the forum how the PQA and the MMI interact? Or how the JMP consider them?

Thanks again A1. Yeah ... just a bit concerned about what I'd have to score in UCAT/ATAR to be competitive in rural. I think my UCAT is fine (95) but not really my ATAR. I got it predicted a long time ago but now (after trials) I think it's actually closer to 98.5 than 99.2. I'm also an EAS candidate but since they take the predicted ATAR and EAS doesn't apply ... am I in a bad situation?

In brief words you are not in a bad situation. Rural 98.5+95%ile you are in the top 10-20% of all rural applicants going into the interview.

To illustrate how high your scores are, it only takes 97.0 + 60ish%ile to get a UQ rural offer, without needing to do an interview.

Apologies, I've another question. Is it even worth applying to VTAC (since the only unis are Monash & MelbUni), if I've got a 95% UCAT and am expecting around a 99.4-99.6 ATAR? And also I reside in NSW, and I know that Monash only reserves very few places for interstate students, hence I assume you'd need to be on the extremely high end of the UCAT & ATAR percentiles.
I don't really want to bother wasting time & money doing the VTAC app if my chances are (presumably) close to zero anyway. Searching for your opinion. Godspeed!

I'd say you are around the borderline for Monash interstate interview. I would put in an application if I were you.

In my year one in Sydney with mid-99s + 94%ile didn't get an invite at first. A few days after the round was completed Monash called her to fly in for a top-up interview and she got an offer. She was so happy with that because at that stage she much preferred going to JMP for its 5 years while her parents were pressuring her to go UQ being a Go8. Monash gave her 5 years + Go8, best of both worlds.

I have the same question except my atar is 99.95 and ucat is 86th percentile(low)

99.45+86%ile is most likely a no, 99.95 might bring it to borderline. Difficult to be precise.

When I interviewed there, some of the student helpers said the PQA is used to effectively weed out the bottom scores and cull numbers slightly. I can’t remember now if it was 10 or 15% culled by this method. But this was not official information. Assume it’s true though, and you make it past the PQA, then yep, 100% interview performance.

Yes, MMI and PQA can be done in either order on the same day, depending on how you’re allocated. I did PQA first. I assume they cut people after all PQAs are completed, too, so they wouldn’t know to hold people back from MMI at that stage with interviews held over a couple of weeks.

I’d say JMP is your best bet - WSU is looking unlikely unfortunately.

Definitely put an application in to Adelaide as well (you might land an interview if you’re lucky) and JCU if you’re willing to study there.

JMP is probably your best hope. If you’re very lucky then you may snag an Adelaide interview too. I’d also apply to JCU as well, and your ATAR puts you in a good position for a provisional entry place offer at Griffith (depending on what your actual ATAR ends up being).

ETA: The EAS may work in your favour for UNSW (I’ll leave that to A1 or Smelly Boy) and you should get a Flinders offer if you qualify for the bonus points to inflate your ATAR.

I’d say UWA is probably unlikely as an interstate (but no harm in applying, and A1 knows UWA better than me so might say something else) and Curtin is a bit unpredictable given the admissions issues of past years but I’d say you may (should?) land an interview given the ATAR is favoured greater than UCAT.

Provided you meet the 99 ATAR cutoff, you should definitely get a UWA interview. Unfortunately Curtin seems unlikely but as above it’s hard to predict without any reliable data from past years.

You should also land a JMP interview and possibly an Adelaide interview too if you’re lucky. Other than that, an application to JCU would be worth it if you’re keen to study there. The other universities are looking unlikely unfortunately.

Your equiv Rank is approx 99.25, with 96%ile I'd say 30-40% chance for UNSW offer. So yes your interview will need to be well above median to not drag you out of the top third final ranking.

You should definitely get interviews with JMP & WSU, offer chances 25% and 40% (being GWS) respectively.

Because they interview a lot more people than the other two (4 for every 1 place on offer) and place offers are based wholly on interview performance so your high ATAR/GPA/UCAT combo can’t compensate and a poor (or even average) interview and will mean you’re easily surpassed for an offer, even by someone with, hypothetically, GPA 4.8, UCAT 80th.

The 4:1 with offers wholly on interview = 25% chance for everyone, regardless of academic/UCAT performance.
