UCAT Results Discussion 2019

Thanks man, appreciate it. Why is the offer chance lower for JMP than WSU or UNSW?

JMP interviews ~750 for 170 places, ATAR & UCAT are not taken into calculation for offers so everyone has roughly 25% chance going into the interview.

WSU interviews ~350 for 110 places (the 350 vs JMP's 750 explains why WSU's interview selection score is much higher). Being GWS gives you better chances than non-GWS thus I estimate 40% rather than equal 30% for everyone.

UNSW takes ATAR + UCAT into calculation, chances are all different depending on one's headstart or "handicap" ATAR+UCAT.

This would assume WSU interview less people per GWS places on offer than they interview non-GWS for non-GWS places on offer and rural for rural places on offer. Do we know if that’s the case, and, if so, why?

In their submission for AMC accreditation WSU stats show interview invites are kept to 50/50 GWS while 60% of the cohorts are GWS.

Is the 60% stat simply reflective of a cohort from that specific year, or are all WSU med cohorts made up of 60%+ GWS students?

Mod Note: Answered for Med.

Would you happen to know who gets accepted through the ACCESS scheme at UNSW? Or pretty much EAS at any med school? Because definitely not everybody who applies gets accepted. Is it like the people with the highest ATAR of all EAS applicants that get it, or those with the most severe conditions? Also, is a UCAT score of 95-96%ile competitive for offers at UQ, JMP, WSU, UTAS (or any uni really)? I know it's not bad, but I'm not sure if it's considered as competitive.
Hi Catelyn One of the girls I went to school with last year in Brisbane was offered a place in UQ med (I don't know if bonded or unbonded) with an OP 4 (ie an ATAR of about 95 or 94) and a 68% umat score because she qualified as a rural applicant. She was also offered interviews at almost all of the unis she applied to so you should have a really good chance with your scores?

I’d say UWA is probably unlikely as an interstate (but no harm in applying, and A1 knows UWA better than me so might say something else) and Curtin is a bit unpredictable given the admissions issues of past years but I’d say you may (should?) land an interview given the ATAR is favoured greater than UCAT.
Do you mean UWA treat local and interstate differently? What is the requirement of ATAR and UCAT for both local and interstate?

They do because they hold a separate offer round for interstates, and offer locals first in the first round of TISC. Unfortunately, there isn't much data on what is needed for interstate people, but local, you should be able to get at least and interview with a 80th+ UCAT and a 99 atar.

Hypothetically speaking, how high would a rural applicant have to score in the UNSW interview with a 95%ile and 99.95 atar (not me though)

Even a non-rural with 99.95+95%ile only needs to not be in the bottom 20% interview to get an offer.

Rural it would be a shoo-in unless you say something very wrong in the interview.

What is the lowest possible ATAR/UCAT combo needed hypothetically for Monash, I know they have never specifically said what it would be but would something like 98 ATAR plus 80th UCAT be the bare minimum? I’m pretty confused

These were the non-rural non-SEAS Monash offers on MSO last year

215 (100th%ile), 99.95, CSP, interstate
200 (98th%ile), 99.25, CSP
191 (96th%ile), 99.40, ERC, CSP
189 (95th%ile) 65/54/70, 99.40, CSP
188 (95th%ile) 63/58/66, 99.85, CSP
187 (95th%ile) 65/62/60, 99.75, CSP
185 (94th%ile) 59/56/70, 99.70, CSP
183 (92nd%ile) 99.95, interstate
181 (91st%ile) 78/52/50, 99.50, CSP
178 (88th%ile), 99.05, CSP
172 (82nd%ile) 60/60/51, 99.10, CSP

The lowest two are quite a step down from the group above, makes me wonder if they were given SEAS without knowing. In any case that makes 98.0+80%ile not looking promising.

You should land a JMP interview and possibly a WSU interview if you're lucky with the way they choose to weight UCAT sections (if at all). I would normally say no for UNSW, but with EAS you may very well (should?) land an interview. You should also gain an Adel interview, and applications to UWA and Curtin would be worth it (but you need a 99 ATAR to be eligible for UWA). You could land a UQ bonded offer if lucky, but you'll need an ATAR of 99+ (if you do LOTE or Spec Maths then you'll meet the cutoff). Also apply for JCU if you're happy to study there.

I'll leave dentistry to Yamster but you're a shoo-in for a UQ dent offer (again provided you meet the 99 ATAR hurdle).

Good luck :)

Hi, was just wondering if there is any chance of me getting an interview with a 95 atar and around 55th percentile UCAT?
Unless you are rural or have some EAS bonuses, its virtually impossible. Sorry to hit you with the truth.

Probably just JMP of the UCAT using non-standard universities. You could also try JCU and Bond for the non-UCAT unis.

Is your degree complete? If so, you could also try Curtin. We don’t have much data on non-standard UCAT requirements for them so it can’t hurt.

Also, from your username, are you a current UAdel student? If your degree isn’t complete, you could apply for tertiary transfer to UAdel Med.

Hey everyone! I understand that my UCAT percentile isn't competitive, and I do have a plan for uni if I don't get into undergrad medicine. Thanks for help in advance! :)

Specific Question:

Do I have a chance of receiving an interview for either medicine or dentistry at ANY university? I am quietly confident confident of doing well in an interview, just getting one seems slim for me, but if I have a chance of getting one anywhere I'll definitely apply. Any advice greatly appreciated!

I scored 69% in the UMAT last year so only marginally improved this year with the UCAT, however I just started a 5-year course and am weighing up between sitting the UCAT again or pursuing the graduate medicine option.

Many thanks in advance! - this forum has been incredibly helpful so thank you for all the help and guidance thus far :)
