I have good reasons to believe UNSW does *not* require an above average (median) interview to be in contention for a place offer. Places are offered to the top third of the interview cohort, if UNSW pre-rejects half of them before the final ranking they would be offering to two-thirds of the remaining half.
Poor choice of wording from me, I wasn’t trying to imply you need to be in the top half of interviewees. I have the same interpretation as you below.
My guess is they might reject the bottom 10-20% of interviews (i.e. for these even 99.9+99%ile won't help average out). The rest all get ranked based on combination of the three components, as such a 99.9+99%ile will have infinitely better chance. Imagine your class do three exam papers and you score 95-100 each for two, how many marks do you need in the third paper to be in the class' top third overall? I figure very little, can be well below class average.

Unfortunately 78%ile is unlikely to be enough for the med schools that use it. JCU & Bond are the only realistic avenues.

For greenflower , being school leaver you might want to try CDU/Flinders. This program is mainly for NT & Indigenous students but in the off chance they don't fill the quotas they might consider non-NT applicants. UWA is also a chance if you can get 99.0+, I see a 72%ile in last year's interview & offer lists (though that could be a WA student).
I’d probably throw JMP an application because we don’t reeeeeally know how that’s going to play out this year and if the UAC fee isn’t prohibitive, then it’s better to be safe than sorry.

(greenflower & 2020hopeful)

Thanks for the advice!

96%ile should be enough to get interviews with both JMP & WSU. Since their place offers are based mostly on the interview chances are basically the place : interview ratio - 1 in 4 for JMP and roughly 1 in 3 for WSU.
I didn't include UNSW because I didn't think my UCAT and WAM/ATAR was going to be enough but WAMC for a UNSW interview?

Sorry to say UNSW doesn't look promising. Your 75-80 WAM is likely to be around 6.2-6.4 GPA, converted at best to 98.5 for (98.5+97)/2 = sub-98 equiv Rank. That typically requires 98-99%ile to get an interview with practically zero chance for a place offer. But put in a pref anyway in case your GPA is higher.

For general info, two years ago UNSW withdrew all interstate invites below 98.2 (reason being no local applicant below 98.2 was successful after their interview, interstate would only waste their time attending). I was told last year that "elimination" cutoff went even higher.

Hello Mods

Applying for: Medicine

AR: 850

Applying to: UNSW, WSU, JMP, Monash, UQ unbonded, UQ bonded, UTas
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: Yes
Indigenous Applicant: No

Specific Question:
1. I really wish that I can get into UNSW. I feel the ATAR is a bit low compared to many other high achievers here. What is the chance (percentage) with that combo for UNSW?
2. What is the chance for each uni listed above?
3. Do you suggest any other uni?

Many thanks, appreciate your help!!!

Obviously you will get interviews everywhere. Chances for place offer:
UQ unbonded - 100%
UQ bonded - 0%
JMP - 25%
WSU - 40% (being GWS)
UNSW & Monash - around 60%
UTas - not really sure.

You can also try UWA Curtin if you wish, they'd be around the same chances as UNSW/Monash.

Thank you A1
For UTas (I start reading the older comments), is that mostly because we don't know how UTas' new criteria using UCAT will play out especially for interstate?

Just wondering why UQ bonded is 0%, and also what ATAR/UCAT combo would allow for UQ unbonded?? Thanks!
cause if you get uq unbonded you cannot get bonded, which is why there is 0% because it is 100% for uq unbonded, previous years have been around the 89-92nd umat percentile marks (so like 88-91st ucat percentile)

UQ unbonded has been typically OP1/Rank 99 + 94-95%ile, so 99%ile is a shoo-in for sure.

If you want to go to UQ desperately, then putting bonded doesn't hurt. It means that you have to go rural for 3 years after your degree. If you are ok with that, then put it as an option. However, it is highly unlikely that UQ bonded positions will drop that low, they usually have their cutoff in the low 90s.

Interviews are possible with JMP, Adelaide, UWA & Curtin if you apply.
Not much hope for Monash & WSU. If you get 99.5 you might scrape an interview with UNSW with 10-20% chance of a place offer. Since you are submitting a UAC application for JMP might as well add UNSW & WSU in.

EtA: See if you can push ATAR to 99.60 for a SCU/Griffith spot.

EAS won't help UCAT so realistically interviews are possible only with JCU, JMP & UWA, a maybe for Adelaide & Curtin.
Try push for ATAR 99.60 for a SCU/Griffith spot.

Got 2 follow on questions:
1) Probability of WSU offer?
2) What constitutes borderline for UNSW... are there previous years which you made this assumption on (and if borderline, what is the probability of offer given my marks)?

After getting an invite probability of WSU offer is around 30% for non-GWS, 40% GWS.

Last year's UNSW borderline for interview (we are quite sure of this since there were a few just under didn't get invited) was 99.2+92%ile or equiv combo. My unscientific rule of thumb for equivalent is 1%ile = 0.1 ATAR so your 99.0+95%ile is just around that mark. Scraping an interview means only 10-20% chance getting a place offer since you are among the lowest in the interview cohort, you need a high enough interview score to (when combined with ATAR+UCAT) lift you into the top third overall.
