Applying for: medicine
Application Type: non-standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: GPA 6.5 ( might be able to bump it up to 6.75)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 95
VR: 640
DM:680
QR:830
AR:800
Total:2950
SJ:603
Current State: SA
Applying to:
Adelaide, UWS, JCU
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant:
no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: none
Specific Question:
just worried about GPA as I've heard I need much higher for Adelaide. ( got the 6.5 in engineering, now in health science) Mainly trying to get into adelaide.
GPA isn’t weighted particularly heavily and with that UCAT/GPA combination you’re in a very good position for an Adelaide place offer. Just focus on the interview from here and provided you have a reasonable performance, you should definitely be in with a shot!

If you’re applying to WSU is there any reason why you aren’t applying for the JMP? You should receive interviews at both of those. JCU will depend on your written application. Good luck! :)

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: School Leaver
Predicted ATAR: Estimated 99.60
UCAT Percentile Rank: 93rd UCAT Percentile
Current State: NSW
Applying to: Monash, Curtin, UWA, UNSW, USyd, JMP, WSU, UoA
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: EAS (SEIFA), SEAS (cat 1), Monash Guarantee (99.95 in calc)
Specific Question: What are my chances of an interview at all universities I am applying to?
Solid chances at getting inteviews at curtin and UWA. Note that UWA and curtin don't have EAS schemes for interstate people to my knowledge. If you 99.60 includes EAS then you would need to consider your real ATAR. If 99.60 is your raw predicted ATAR you have a good shot

Applying for: Med
Application Type: Non Standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: ATAR 92 GPA 6.3
UCAT Percentile Rank: 34th 🤮
Current State: SA
Applying to:
Adelaide Uni
Rural Applicant: Yes
GWS Applicant:
no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other:
Specific Question:
My ATAR was garbage by med standards but my GPA is mildly better and Ive lived as rural as you get for my whole life, and taking into account that Adelaide only weights the UCAT at 20%, what do y'all think my chances are for an interview? If I get to interview I'm so sure I can secure a spot but leaning hard on my intentions to go rural afterwards.
Unfortunately with that UCAT an interview at Adelaide is very unlikely, though as a tertiary transfer applicant we have limited (possibly none?) data for rural applicants so it’s worth an application as a long shot.

If you’re willing to move interstate, JCU would be your best chance (and your heavy rural background would put you in a very good position there) - but the written application is due at the end of September, so if you do choose to apply there, I’d get working on it ASAP.

Good luck with the application(s) :)

Hi! does this mean that the ucat and 95 atar is essentially a threshold, and passing this, you will then be ranked on your atar only (no interview as well?) if so, do you know the minimum atar required after passing the threshold from previous years? Thanks!
Correct. This is the first year (at least for a while, by my understanding) that the criteria is solely ATAR after the hurdles are met. For this reason it’s difficult to give you a solid answer here. You can be assured the interstate applicant cutoff will be very high (my guess: 99.7+ at the very least) in comparison to Tasmanian school leavers.

You should also gain interviews at UNSW (with the EAS), JMP, Adelaide and Monash (if last year is anything to go by, you should just scrape an interview as an interstate applicant but then be in a great position for a place offer). WSU will be borderline for an interview. You’ll get a USYD interview if you qualify for E12 and your ATAR is at least 99.5.

Good luck! :)

Hi sme

Hi Smelly Boy,
I just wanted to say hello. We chatted last year during the JMP interviews. I logged on today to actually see how you were going! Congratulations on your UCAT score. I just wanted to let you know I am one of your fans and really rooting for you. I ended up getting a top up offer and I am JMP Armidale campus. Anyways just wanted to wish you the best and I really hope you get in to UNSW so you can be close to your family. Your determination is amazing! Best of Luck!
Hello my dear friend, congrats on your success last year. Thanks so much for being such an angel & writing this. You have successfully made my head grow to twice its size hahaha ❤❤

(Probably a bit in the way of all this UCAT result question traffic so mods can move or delete if they wish :) )

Crow replies: Happy for this to stay but if you wish to continue discussion (which I whole-heartedly encourage) please do so outside of the thread :)

so JMP require a year of study in one program.....i would've preferred that because I would have been able to defer and save up some money. Good to know a 6.75 is competitive enough for adelaide. Any tips for the interview?

Hello,
Will being applicable for the monash guarantee/seas, boost my chances in getting a monash interview by any means? If they use the monash guarantee atar of 99.95, UCAT cut off for an interview should drop?

Yes, it should - my post took into account your Monash guarantee. 99.6/93rd wouldn’t have gained an interstate applicant an interview there last year (if my memory serves me correctly), but 99.95/93rd was enough. Whether they will choose to interview more or less interstate candidates this year, I am not sure, but this could have an impact on the cutoff too.

ETA: Actually, I forgot that you’re actually guaranteed an interview if you meet the Monash guarantee requirements, so you’ll be good to go for an interview there anyway.

What do you think are the chances for interstate 99.95/86th% monash?
If last year is anything to go by I think your UCAT would unfortunately be too low. I believe you’d need ~91st or better to go with that ATAR. Hopefully they drop the ridiculously high requirements for interstate students in the upcoming admissions cycle.

Applying for: Medicine

GWS Applicant: Yes
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: EAS, SEAS, doing Ext 2 maths
Specific Question: Hi! Sorry I've done one of these before but I found out that I qualify for EAS and SEAS due to being in the lowest 30% of socio-economic disadvantage in Australia so I was wondering how my chances could have changed, especially for UNSW and Monash? (using the SEAS calculator, it says that the corresponding estimated selection rank for an ATAR 97 would be 99.25. I'm not entirely sure how UNSW will consider me)

What selection rank would I need to have an average interview at Monash and gain a place? and given I do get that 97, how well do I need to do in the interview? same for UNSW! (though I'm not sure if there's enough information to speak for how much it might boost my selection rank for UNSW)

I haven't got a clue to your EAS questions specifically, but you will be able to get a UQ unbonded position easy if you can bump up that ATAR to a 99 (you can add 2 for either language or maths c/maths spec).

Smelly Boy mentioned previously that attending a disadvantaged school used to give +3 at UNSW, not sure how much low SES would be, but if you contact the Med faculty they might be able to help.

Mod note: answered

Applying for:
Medicine and open to dent but prefer medicine
Application Type: Non Standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: Actual 2018 ATAR 95.50 / Current GPA 6.1/6.2 ish
UCAT Percentile Rank: 94
VR: 670
DM: 720
QR: 680
AR: 860
Total: 2930
SJ: 680
Current State: NSW
Applying to: WSU, JMP, JCU, UNSW (but not really realistic), CSU
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: Yes
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: n/a
Specific Question: Just wondering odds for WSU and JMP invites mainly.
Also, is there any other universities I could be applying to as a non standard (besides bond)?
Is my GPA even close to being competitive enough for JCU?
Is it possible to apply anywhere in NZ as a non standard without having done 1 year of a health science degree? (super confused about the NZ med admission process)
Is there any other dent schools that I could apply to realistically given my marks!
Thank you!

For medicine: as GWS you’ll get a WSU interview, and you’ll also get a JMP interview too. Your GPA is on the lower side for a non-rural applicant at JCU but with a quality written application it’s definitely not impossible. Bond is the only other uni that you’re currently eligible for.

For dentistry: You’ll get interviews at CSU and Adelaide (if you choose to apply) and most likely a place offer at LaTrobe. JCU again would depend on the written application.

Good luck :)

Don't forget about the 6.5 gpa cutoff tho for uq
