UCAT Results Discussion 2020

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: School leaver
Predicted ATAR/GPA: High 99s (I’d expect based on converting from NCEA but not sure as it all seems quite secretive from my digging around)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 93
VR: 700
DM: 670
QR: 830
AR: 800
Total: 3000
SJ: 690
Current State: New Zealand
Applying to:
UNSW, Monash
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: no
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: -
Specific question:
Does anyone have official info on how NCEA converts to ATAR?

Assuming NZers are treated the same as interstaters at Monash, your UCAT is likely too low for an interview there, but you should get an interview at UNSW (assuming your ATAR equivalent is at least 99.25+, which it sounds like it will be). There are way more than two Aus unis you could apply to, btw...

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: Non-Standard
GPA: 7
UCAT Percentile Rank: 94
VR: 670
DM: 800
QR: 830
AR: 710
Total: 3020
SJ: 649
Possible WSU Formula Total (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 712
Current State: NSW
Applying to: JMP, WSU, UNSW
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: EAS
Specific Question: Are there any interstate universities that would be worthwhile applying to? Bond is out the question due to the fees and out of the 3 I have listed I feel only JMP is (fingers crossed) a sure thing.

I think you’re right about JMP being your only sure thing. I’d say JPM(WSU) is out and UNSW will depend on your SCATS application (not EAS as you’re not a school leaver. Make sure you do the correct application) and your ATAR (which you’ve not included so I can’t gauge for sure).

If you have a completed degree, you can apply to Curtin (and will likely get an interview). You can also apply to JCU, your GPA is competitive but it largely comes down to your written application.

Thanks, what's the ATAR requirement for UNSW and Monash interview.
Last year UNSW had an ATAR cutoff of 99.25. Monash is a bit more uncertain being an interstate student, but your UCAT is good. Going by ucatboy 's previous expert comments, (and please correct me if this is not the case), but you would probably need a 99.70+ ATAR for a shot at an interview.

Short answer: yes for Monash, UNSW and UAdel (but to a lesser extent). Not so much for JMP and WSU, since they don't weigh ATAR into the final ranking calculations. You can be assured of an interview at any uni though, except for maybe USyd (99.95 normlly, but not sure if you qualify for the 99.50+ E12 pathway). I'm sure you'll be fine, practice makes perfect :)

I know I really messed up my UCAT big time, but I was wondering if there was still a chance of securing an interview with the JMP (as I saw that another user got an interview via rural last year with a score of 2400)? Pls give me some hope.

Being rural with a good GPA & low UCAT your best bet is at JCU, I hope you will consider applying there.
It's hard to say for sure if you will get an interview with JMP, can only wait and see. You might try JPM/CSU as well, it being first intake we don't know what the interview cutoff will be like.

You’ll get interviews at all the unis that offer them. You may land an interview free offer to USC(/Griffith), but unlikely Nathan/GC.

I agree with A1 that you should also apply to JPM(/WSU). It could be a long-shot but they are more than doubling their rural intake for 2021 entry so who knows and it’s worth being in the running!

I know that this post isn't really about the ucat results discussion and that there will be more people reaching out on this forum for more opinions and advice on their application processes, but I wanted to take a minute to thank every single mod, valued members and everyone else on this forum for sacrificing their time and energy to help the new-comers. I wanted to let you guys know that this work that you guys are doing is incredible and blows my mind everytime I visit this forum. I really am thankful for a communinty like this to exist and couldn't thank you all enough! 🙏

With 73%ile non-rural you can only go for the no-UCAT schools. If your ATAR conversion is true as stated you should get a USyd interview and straight place offer from Griffith.

May I ask why is your atar lower for qtac?
Every tertiary center has a different process to convert %marks to an equivalent ATAR

With 73%ile non-rural you can only go for the no-UCAT schools. If your ATAR conversion is true as stated you should get a USyd interview and straight place offer from Griffith.
Thank you

A1 adds: Sorry I forgot you could also try for no-UCAT JCU, 10%-UCAT Flinders, or apparently 50%ile hurdle-UCAT UTas.

You won’t get an interview at either of those if past years are anything to go by, unfortunately. You could consider an application to JCU if you’d be willing to move to QLD (or Bond if you have $$$). Otherwise, this admissions year is probably out. Good luck regardless :)
