UCAT Results Discussion 2020

is there any official information on UNSW's website that says their ATAR cutoff is 99.25?

It's not a preset number to say "the cutoff is 99.25", it was 99.25 last year in particular and can change from year to year depending on the applicant cohort.

There was an email last year from UNSW saying 99.25, but you can see in this post where it shows Lowest selection rank 99.25
> UNSW General Entry Questions and Discussion

Hey man! Are you wanting to apply for an Australian spot? Or are you just popping in to say hello? I was able to rattle on about your UCAT and how you need to give us an ATAR but evidently you haven't got one lmao
Hello Sir,

Just popping in to say Hello - wanted to fit in with the result posting, realise now it might not be helpful for stats since that's already done.

^^ just wanted to point out that UNSW's lowest SELECTION rank was 99.25, this is not the same as ATAR, I know people who got in - normal stream with a 97 ATAR

Did they complete extra tertiary study? Did they have some sort of equity boost? What year did they apply?

I find it hard to believe tbh, it could be possible if they completed a year of uni and boosted their Academic Rank to 98.25 and then got a 100th %tile UMAT, they might of got an interview under UNSW's old system of combining things.

General Question
Would a 99.5 and 90th combo change from "borderline" interview at UNSW and JMP to "likely" if ATAR increased to 99.95?

For UNSW yes, but no for JMP since ATAR is just a hurdle for them (94.3 i think)

Your ucat should be enough for a uadel interview invite, and CSU is a possibility but it will be borderline (it wouldn't have been enough last year so it is a toss up) depending on your non-standard GPA, uq is also an option which you might be able to scrape a spot, and Griffith will need a 6.875 GPA, there is also JCU which is worth an application. Good luck!

hi
i was wondering what my chances are for curtin, UWA, monash, UQ are for med/dent are with a 99.05 and 97th percentile 3130 ucat score as a school leaver gap yearer from nsw so interstate... thanku!
also (i understand uq is doing the atar system now but 99 is still just a hurdle right so should i be good for uq dent?)

Interviews at all except Monash and UQ Med, I'd say.
As a gap year student, you're not eligible for UQ Med, but you are for Dent, I think.

I'd reckon you should be confident in your chances of interviews at both (good job on VR!) - and if you want to spice things up, you could attend the interview in formal attire such as your birthday suit 😏

I believe the WSU GPA hurdle is 6.2+ if you have 1+ FTE so that might make you ineligible (unless you had an ATAR above 95.5) It would best to check yourself here

Otherwise your UCAT scores would make you competitive for interviews at both. Both JMP and WSU have high interview weightings (100% and 75% repsectively) so you will need to perform well

UQ Med: Good shot for an interview
Griffith: Good shot for a place
JMP: Maybe an interview, depends the way the new Biomed lateral entry scheme will work out
UNSW: Good shot for an interview
Monash: Likely out of your reach due to their heavy interstate bias
Adelaide: Probably not due to new subquota
Flinders: If you can get a 99.85 and get bonuses then good shot for a place
Curtin: Likely interview
UWA: Likely interview
JCU: Good Shot at an interview with good written

UQ Dent: Good chance at a place
Griffith Dent: If you can get a 99.80+ then good shot
CSU: Maybe, interview last year was 91st
Adelaide: Good chance
JCU: Great chance at a place with a strong written

Good job on those fantastic scores.

Also, are there any med schools that I'm missing and might have a shot at?
Thank you for your time :D
