[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

I'm doing my UAC preferences right now. Ideally, I would like to do medicine at WSU, but I think I am more likely to get UNSW. Is it safe for me to put WSU 1st and UNSW 2nd? I have heard that UNSW might not consider me for a 1st round offer until WSU rejects me. Is there a possibility that I miss out on any of these offers because of the way I order my selections?

As far as I'm aware, --- got called away and Bilbo_Baggins beat me to it :)

Yes for all three, given your rural status. Congratulations!! Keep your ATAR above 99.0 and you'll open some other doorways, too. Also, you'd be eligible for UTAS via the Rural Application Process.
I know rural data is fairly limited, but do you have any idea about how brilliantly I would have to do in interviews to get an offer?

I suggest the answer is "it depends!" but as a suggestion.....

All you can do at the moment is work to achieve your best atar and prepare your best possible interview. If you give your interview your best shot then regardless of whether you need top 10% or top 90%, you could not have done more.

Question/s: Just wondering what my chances are for an interview at Curtin or UWA assured entry? Also wondering if anyone knows the ATAR requirements for Curtin, they have said 95 is the cut off but does anyone know what the actual lowest ATAR was that still go entry (non-rural)? Thank you!!

Welcome to MSO. Since UWA sets minimum ATAR 99.0 you will need to do better than predicted or have done a LOTE (to get a small ATAR bonus) or see if you qualify for the Broadway pathway. If you meet this condition 97 UMAT will get an interview and a fair chance for a place offer.

For Curtin the lowest ATAR depends on your UMAT as the two scores work in combination. I copy/paste from this post the known successful applicants last year

Welcome to MSO. You will definitely get interviews with UNSW and WSU. About 33% chance for a WSU place offer since apparently selection is all on the interview and place/interview ratio is about 1 in 3. UNSW would be around 40-50% chance depending how high is high 98s.

Push as high as you can with your ATAR to improve your competitiveness. As things currently stand, yep, you'll probably just get interviews at both (UNSW maybe slightly more likely?).

You'd also likely get interviews at JMP, UAdel, and maybe Curtin.

Well done, and best of luck :)

Question/s: Hi, with the predicted ATAR above, and with my UMAT, how are my chances at getting an offer for Flinders, University of Adelaide, Monash, UNSW or UQ? I would preferably go to JCU, Griffith or Melbourne, but I'd like to know my chances at these other universities to see if its worth it to apply anyway. Thanks

If your actual ATAR ends up closer to 99.95 than 99.6, then Flinders and Griffiths would be on the cards.

Unfortunately, your UMAT is not quite there for UQ, Monash, or UNSW. And possibly is also too low for UAdel.

Your best bet will be the non-UMAT unis, Griffiths, Flinders, and JCU. Bond also, if you can afford it. A 99.95 would open up USyd and UMelb, if you can swing it :)

Hi J28,

With your ATAR did you apply to the USYD DDMP or Griffith Med program either this year or last year?

I did but my unadjusted ATAR was only 99.00, and the equity bonus points only counted in SA, so I didn't make the cut offs.

IIRC, UMAT only makes up 10% of the entry criteria for Flinders, so you might be in luck given your amazing ATAR.

As already mentioned, Griffiths and USyd would also be options for you, as well as UMelb and possibly UWA.

ETA: Ahhh, just saw your reply above. Flinders (and maybe UWA?) is your best bet.
