UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

I've seen non-rural people getting unsw invites with 87ucat+99.1atar and 76ucat+99.05atar, although with seas. Is seas really that big of an advantage? Are people being bumped to 99.95? I'm here with a 91st+99.55 without seas and 0 invites from anywhere in aus :(

I got 99.55 too with a 98th and got an invite - seems like UCAT is a bigger deal this year? Idk sorry 😢

It's the UCAT that's a huge deal this year. A lot of cutoffs are moving up by a lot. :(

But how is a 76 ucat + 99.05 + seas > 91+99.55. ahhhhh
It's why I speculated yesterday UNSW may now have three categories for interview selection:
- 99.95 (incl. EAS boost) with relatively low UCAT
- UCAT 98/99 provided meeting ATAR 96+ or WAM 70+
- The rest are by ATAR+UCAT combo.

maybe the actual application was factored in as a mark? so say that those that got 76 ucat and 99 atars do well in the interview would they trunp the higher high 90s atars and ucats ?

yeahh i saw that too and now i'm so so confused and anxious! I'm going to call them on Monday and double check everything, but I'm so confused to how they sent a rejection, then double checked and sent me an interview offer like how would they get it wrong twice?

nope definitely below 96
im in the same boat

hi moderator a1, I can't PM yet and I wondering if u could please PM me, it is slightly urgent! thanks

Does anyone know if it’s at all possible to change the interview date/time?
I think UNSW has traditionally been one of the less flexible unis when it comes to these requests but the worst that can happen is that you contact them and ask and they say no. May as well give it a shot! And please report back here if they do allow you to change time slot.

Managed to change the other commitment that clashed thankfully! Especially since my interview is less than 24h from now... probably wouldn't have had too much luck otherwise!

Crow I've just shot them an email asking for a later time on Wed or another date for myself. It would be 6:15am my time and I asked them if I could have a later time on the day or a different day later time.

Hopefully they can accomodate as I was struggling to wake up at 6am even this morning.

Let us know what they say!

From Selection for Offers site:
"Applicants are ranked using these three selection criteria. Offers for study in the medicine program are offered to applicants with the highest rank determined by all measures. Scores aren’t averaged, a high score in one area won’t compensate for a low score in another."

Does anyone know how an offer is given "with the highest rank determined by all measures" yet scores aren't averaged? Is it through z-score instead, or does it mean they weight each score from UCAT, ATAR and interview differently?

I can't say for sure but my guess explanation is in this post > UNSW General Entry Questions and Discussion
