UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

Any speculations on how the median ATAR and UCAT for offers will change this year?
So far its been
2017: ATAR 99.6
2018: ATAR 99.70
2020 entry: ATAR 99.72/UCAT 3021.2 (roughly 98th percentile last year)
2021 entry: ATAR? UCAT?

Did all of the people who got interview invites with EAS and relatively low ATAR/UCAT qualify for the Gateway scheme?
Or did they have another type of EAS that wouldn't have allowed them to qualify for Gateway?

UNSW is really re-defining the meaning of “median” here! Incredible. ;)
Why you think so, because it shows 99.72?

Say UNSW makes 200 offers, the median would be *between* the 100th & 101st. If the 100.5th happened to be between 99.75 and 99.70 they show the middle point 99.72 ;)

It would actually be 99.725 = 99.73 ;)

I did think about that and have a very good answer.

Say there were two 99.75s tied on 99th offers and three 99.70s tied on 101st offers, their average is (99.75*2 + 99.70*3) / 5 = 99.72 :D

did
Nope median for sure! They're from the medicine information nights! (Screenshots belo

with ucat cutoff at around 2850 last year and 99.25 atar -looks like eas only helps you get interview? if you dont get the ucat but have 99.6 atar before eas points- it doesn't really help- just gets you invited and then - you don't get in!,,,,,

just a quick question, if you get interviewed in the first round and don't get an offer in the same round can u still get an offer in the second round.

It does happen but not a lot. It depends on three factors:

- You are very close to the 1st-round offer cutoff
- UNSW sets aside enough places for 2nd round offers (they usually do)
- 2nd round interviewees on the whole perform lower than expected, thus don't fill up the places set aside for them.

University: UNSW
Course: Medicine
Percentile rank: 95
Total: 3030
SJ: 532
ATAR/GPA: 99.2-99.5 (don't know specific ATAR converted score)
Rural: No
State: NSW
Other Special Considerations: No
Note: I think I have the lowest ATAR and UCAT for a non-rural and non-eas
edit: question removed, data only thread
i got 3030 ucat and 99.4 atar. i didnt get an interview tho. is it different for interstate cus im from qld. they dont consider sjt do they? (if they do that maybe why cuz mine was atrocious)

Interstate interviews are held in round 3 which occur in late January (28th I believe with offers released on the 22nd, don’t quote me on this though!).

Although NSW resident Yeezyboy did Y12 in Singapore and their results may have been converted to better than 99.4 and just made over the line.

UNSW says on its website SJT is not used.

Hey guys
I did my UNSW interview a few days ago and I already can't stop stressing about Jan 8th lol. I don't feel like I did terribly in the interview but I'm not sure I did all that well. My atar is 99.95 and ucat is 95 (score 3030). I guess my question is could I still get an offer with an average or even below average interview?

There’s really nothing you can do at this point in time to justify worrying. With a 99.95 you have a good chance at a spot, but you should just enjoy yourself in the mean time.

I'm stressing so much about it as well but kind of the opposite with 99.8 ATAR and 97 UCAT (3110)
Can't stop thinking about it haha

I know it's difficult but you really will not achieve anything by stressing over what you could/shouldn't have said during your interview, and going through random calculations of "if I performed to x level in the interview, will y ATAR and z UCAT get me a place offer?" just won't help. Your own interview performance is subjective and you have no idea how the rest of the applicant pool has performed.

Try and engage in hobbies to focus on outside of this, as the wait will be very long otherwise! Good luck and happy holidays.
