UPDATED Dentistry Schools Selection Criteria Y12s & Non-standards

Hi
I just want to inquire which med and dental universities accept students after one year of pharmacy study .
Thanks in advance

Hey all would a 3020 ucat score be competitive for a CSU dental science interview offer? (need to know if i should put it in my uac preferences) *ik its speculative until percentiles come out but just want a general idea

You should put it regardless as it's hard to know exactly what the required score is for CSU. Last year it was 3060 but if the percentiles go down you could have enough [If your rural it's a lower score]. Even with percentiles it's a bit harder to predict for CSU as a lot of the seats are for rural students so it really depends on how many people apply. If you have spots there is no harm in placing it on your preferences.

This is a really important reply. Thank you Caffeine.

Regardless of the guidance we (MSO) can provide to people here, if you are interested in a particular study program, you should always include it in your preferences/make up your own mind about whether to apply. We base our advice on historical data as we rarely (?never) have exact information to go by. This is not always accurate (though, funnily enough, if often more accurate than the uni’s admissions information), and can change from year to year. It’s intended to give people a very rough guide but not to be the definitive source of information from which people should make life-altering decisions.

With 8 courses the high GPAs can be 7.0 or 6.875 or 6.75. I wish Griffith were more specific about what Selection Rank 6.875 & 6.75 get.
It's depressing news from Griffith's examples in this link > Upgrading via university studies

- From table's GPA 6.0 = 83 & 6.5 = 85 : example 6.33 = 84.0 (interpolated between 83-85)
- From table's GPA 5.0 = 96 & 6.0 = 98 : example 5.88 = 97.0 (interpolated between 96-98)
- From table's GPA 6.5 = 88 & 6.95 = 88.95 : example 6.80 = 88.0 (not interpolated)
- From table's GPA 6.5 = 99 & 6.95 = 99.95 : example 6.63 = 99.0 (not interpolated)

It appears Griffith is hanging on to the old integer-step Selection Ranks, thus interpolates to 84 or 97 as above. Otoh there's no SR in between 99.0 & 99.95 to interpolate to, so GPAs between 6.6 & 6.9 are stuck with SR 99.0 !! o_O

Hi guys! Now that Griffiths university is using UCAT as well as MMI for admissions, would the standard cut off of a 6.85 GPA lower slightly or is it likely to remain the same?

UCAT is the primary selector for the interview [GPA will be used in a final ranking component]. Therefore there is no GPA cut-off initially but in the offer stage it might be difficult to get an offer without a certain GPA. It's not possible to know exactly what it is but it is likely to be around the 6.5+ mark [However it might be lower]

Thank you so much ! I assumed it would be liked this but wasn't sure, fingers crossed its not insanely high this year as well 😭

It should be a bit lower due to UCAT and interviews coming into play now. Also because half the degree is full-fee, requirements should hopefully be lower than Adelaide Dent for example.

Just to add Griffith also has quite a few more spots in the course compared to Adelaide/UQ due to the FFP structure I'm assuming. My friend in the course said for 1st year it was like nearly double but I'm not sure if that's including International students

Yes I've heard majority of the dent students at Griffiths are non-standard applicants which is great !

I have a UCAT of 3000 but my GPA is lower than I’d like :( 6.625 …. Do you think it’s worth putting Griffith as a preference? I’m wondering whether the GPA is too low for a shot at final selection ….

Absolutely, I would say Griffith is quite likely. It's FFP so you should be competitive. Whilst it's quite unlikely you would get a UQ offer, you should put down Griffith as they also offer more places. GPA wise your competitive as well for Griffith as this time it's different to prior years

There was an obvious reason for that^. In recent years so many non-standards applied (with 1yr of uni it's quite possible to achieve a high GPA) the GPA cutoff was 6.875, which equates to ATAR 99.80. Most school leavers who got 99.8+ chose Griffith Med in preference thus we see hardly any school leavers in the Dent intake.

The 6.875 cutoff was when GPA was the sole determinator. Now GPA is one of three components it's likely to drop to like low 6s, since a good number of the high GPAs won't have a high enough UCAT and/or interview score to be selected.

I called UQ and they said that they accept EAS?? But someone here said that they don't accept EAS for both Med and Dent. Anyone with experience here, and whether it's worth it to go through the paperwork of applying for EAS?

ive seen griffith also offer CSP places ? so do you mean that non-standard are only given FFP or am i missing something ..

The last two years of the Griffith Dent degree (the Masters component) are FFP regardless of school leaver or non-standard. And it is really quite pricey compared to a degree that is fully CSP. The final two years cost just over $126k, on top of the $33k for the first three years (the bachelor degree portion).
