UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

Out of curiosity, does anyone the UCAT cutoff for both CSP and BMP places for provisional entry medicine?

CSP: 2880 is the lowest we have
BMP: 2800 is the lowest we have

I think 93rd for a csp and 88th for a bmp

There have been one or two years with similar UMAT percentiles. Apart from the smaller Qld Y12 cohort for this year's intake I think it also comes down to how much UQ over-offers. Last year's cutoffs were high maybe because they didn't over-offer enough (thus needed to top up afterwards)?

Hi! I received a bonded offer (:yay:), but I was just wondering - does the bonded agreement kick in when I commence the 4 year graduate program (as in, is that when I have to sign and agree to its conditions)? And if so, since I'm technically now an undergraduate student, would I still be able to apply as a non-standard to interstate universities and not break the bonded contract with UQ? (Not that I would - just want to keep my options open if I have a sudden bout of homesickness ha)

Yes, and yes. Congrats on your offer.

Thanks for the quick response. Would there be any chance for a BMP given that that is currently at 2800?

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to say no again, unfortunately. I really can't see that happening given how many people would sit in that 60 point difference and the fact that we rarely (never?) see UQ top ups reported here.

I wouldnt think so, thats alot of people in that gap. Theres always next year, if you whip out a killer UCAT and have a good GPA you'll land plenty of interviews across the country :)

I got the UQ BMP offer but I also have my JMP interview in a couple days. Is there any reason to choose JMP over UQ and is it even worth going to the interview in the first place? By the way I would be an interstater for both unis.

One factor is JMP is 5 years while UQ is 7 years

Adding onto what Joe has said, UQ is a 7 year provisional entry course because you have to do an undergraduate degree first (3 years) before you actually start medicine (4 years). On the other hand JMP doesn’t make you do a whole other degree first so the course is 5 years. Some factors to consider maybe the extra debt you’ll be in if you were to go for the 7 year course instead of 5 and the opportunity cost of entering the work force two years later. Congratulations though and good luck for your interview should you choose to go! 😊

I’d definitely attend JMP, not just for the important factors mentioned above, but also to try and land a CSP. Regardless, I feel that a JMP place trumps a UQ place if you’re an interstate applicant given the above factors. Congrats on the UQ offer! :)

Are the tuition fees for CSP and BMP the same?

Yes they are. Both are effectively CSPs, one just has the BMP condition attached to it which is entirely separate to the fee structure. Sorry, we here at MSO probably confuse matters in the way we use CSP and BMP acronyms.

I got a BMP place at UQ with 2850 UCAT and 98.6 ATAR. What are the chances that I get an unbonded offer in the second round. Also, if I get a second round offer from another uni which occurs on the 2nd Feb (interstate), will I be able to choose that uni instead of UQ even though I have already enrolled in it?

Very unlikely for the upgrade (I've never seen it happen, tbh, though if anyone has, please let us know), and yes, you will just withdrawn from UQ easily and without penalty as soon as you get your preferred offer.

May I please have some advice? The only offer I have received is a UQ provisional CSP. I am rural RA2 applicant living in Sydney (although UNSW and WSU do not classify me as rural). My ATAR was 97.55 and UCAT 96% (which I guess doesn't matter as I need to sit UCAT again). Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should defer my UQ offer to try get a med offer in NSW so I can devote a lot more time into UCAT + Interview prep OR should I take the UQ offer, progress one year through the program and try again for NSW unis (but I will have less time for prep).

Personally I want to take the second option so I don't waste a year if I don't get any offers but my parents do not agree.
