UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

What undergrad degree do most students pick for provisional medicine at UQ? Thanks.

I picked B Biomedical Science with a major in Body Systems. I cant speak for the majority but given the flexibility of the program you should pick whatever interests you and satisfy the prereqs. I would assume most students would pick something closely related

Is getting a 5.0 gpa hard? And does it mean that you must obtain a gpa of 5 and above every semester?

It means the average grade point across all your courses is 5 yes. I.e. you must achieve 65% across your courses

Hey guys,
I remember that there was 1 state where they consider to add bonus points to if u did methods/spesh .
Which state is that and if i did these subjects in VICTORIA, do i still get those bonus points added?

It's not a whole state, it's just UQ, and yes, they still apply if you study in Victoria. It's also true for LOTE subjects.

Not undergrad medicine, but provisional medicine. Upon entry into the provisional program you will pick an applicable undergraduate degree, and when you graduate from that degree (with a certain minimum GPA, I believe it is 5.0) you will enter into UQ's graduate medicine program. The only guidelines around which degree you pick is whether or not they satisfy certain BIOM subject prerequisites. The list is here: https://medicine.uq.edu.au/files/25021/UQ programs that meet MD prerequsite subjects from 2022.pdf

Hope this helps :)

thanks heaps.
What is the lowest atar + UCAT to get provisional entry?
Or what normally do you need if you're doing specialist maths and maths methods and chemistry.
How many points do they add?

They have interviews next year
Ah i see. But do you know the lowest ATAR and UCAT who got an offer this year?
Im in VIC so i dont get a OP. On the website it says I will get a bonus 4 adjustments. If i get a 97 atar, what will this make my adjusted atar??

There won't be much of a connection between this year's and next year's, as I would imagine that they will be changing the selection criteria. But if you still wish to know, the atar cut off is a 99 equivalent with bonus points and the lowest ucat for bonded was 88th%ile. But this year was a large dip from the previous year where it was 93rd for bonded.

This year UQ required a 99 ATAR (but you can get bonus points for Maths C - spesh, and LOTE) and then ranks applicants based on UCAT performance. But they will be using an interview from next year

Hey people.
I am often seeing others write RA2 and RA3 for rural.
Where do I check if i'm an RA and which RA am i??

Also, for the bonus points at UQ,, I will be getting 2 points for doing spesh.
Just confirming this will be added to my aggregate score (for example from 200 to 202) and NOT to my atar right??

You can use this link > Health Workforce Locator

Enter your home address, tick the Remoteness Area (RA) 2016 then Search.
You can also tick to see the RRMA code, some schools may use RRMA instead of RA.

Add to ATAR so 97 to 99.
wait are you sure?
Because in VIC you get added points to your aggregate score..
Can anyone confirm if what Raine is saying is true?
Sorry I dont mean to be rude and doubt you but just want to get second opinion :))
Thanks

I am in RA1. Does this mean I can't get any bonus points as a rural?

I didn’t quite got what you meant (hence why I didn’t reply before) but now that you specified your from VIC I get what you mean now.

From the UQ website Subject Incentive Scheme

“The Subject Incentive Scheme provides up to five adjustments towards your entry rank”

Entry Rank indicates it’s 2 ATAR points not the aggregate

I am in RA1. Does this mean I can't get any bonus points as a rural?

That’s correct (at UQ). However some schools use RRMA (like UNSW). If you are in a 3-7 area your eligible. If you have any other questions about UNSW rural pathways you should ask around on the UNSW sub forum

Haha so unlucky.
I am in RRMA 1… :(

bad luck. If it makes you feel better I was the last street of RA1 ;)

If you want to be more certain, read carefully *what* points the schemes give.

For example SATAC UES gives 5 university points (aka aggregate). In SA max is 90 for 4.5 subjects so 5 uni points equate to like 25 aggregate marks in NSW - a huge amount.

Otoh UQ says they give 2 Rank points. OP3 or ATAR 97 is about Rank 97, plus 2 rank points = Rank 99. You qualify for UQ on Rank 99, not an adjusted ATAR 99.0.

I only noticed this just now and wanted to add a technical correction. If you get say half your units/courses above 65 and half below 65, giving 65% average across the courses but GPA is only 4.5.
