UTAS Entry 2016 - Non-Standard

FWIW part of email I received from UTAS

=======
I can confirm that UTAS does not apply a cut-off score for UMAT sections. We look at your performance in each section of the UMAT as well as your overall score.

Information in online forums is often based on hearsay and from what I have read of it is often very inaccurate or out of date.
=======
Are you a standard applicant

I'm a standard applicant tho- so it might be different for me, different quotas and cut offs I think? But someone on here said they spoke to admissions and they said the 60 s2 isn't actual.. Also the guy said pool of applicants is less competitive this year. (I think he was talking about standard) Do you know if standard will be easier than non standard?
easier in the sense that if youre a tas local the cut offs are significantly lower and there are more positions available

What about for interstate school leavers?

With 99.95 and 80s UMAT realistically your best chances are with UM Chancellors, or Flinders as UMAT counts only 10%, Griffith, or UQ provisional bonded. I hear the bonded period has been cut to just one year.

Might just take year 13 anyway

By the way what's your atar and

umat? If ya don't mind saying :)

I want UTAS, Monash, or adelaide. Might do a year 13 to get in to those. I'll see haha
Going to hold myself back from telling you how stupid it is that you would ignore all these other universities that will offer you a spot in medicine just because you want to go to a special uni that you slightly prefer. Is it for the prestige?

What is the point in doing a year 13? Like... it doesn't even make sense if you did get a 99.95 ATAR like you said. Why not just re-sit the UMAT? I don't even agree with doing that, you have scores that will get you into medicine somewhere. What happens if you resit the UMAT (you will have to regardless, the scores only last 1 year) and score lower? Then what?

I wouldn't say UTAS is prestigious, and I'm definitely not going for prestige otherwise UMelb, USyd, UQ, UNSW would be my first preferences. I'm going because it's a decision I've made with my family and friends. And I like those courses. Year 13 I mean not for the atar but resit umat. Idk id rather try and get in somewhere I'd like?

Why have you made this decision? In terms of the courses, for the most part: medicine is medicine.

So you would rather take the risk of not studying medicine at all so that you have a chance of studying medicine at one of your 3 preferred universities? I don't know, maybe it's just me. I could never throw away a medicine offer one year without knowing if I would get one in the following year.

It's made after discussion with my family and friends, considering personal reasons and preferences and also based on my personality. I think it's important to enjoy the course that I'm going to do.

I think you are trolling with UTAS :-) , anyway ... my ATAR has not been released, predicted upper half of 99.
UMAT 100th with S2=56 thus I asked UTAS about the 60 cutoff.

It's a big IF but if I get Uadel & you don't, I wonder if they would let me swap with you for your UM Chancellors haha.

What??? How am I trolling with UTAS??? D::: what do you mean? I do want to go there! Is that Uni bad or something.. Your umat is so good omg!! Bit jealous haha. I'd GLADLY swap postgrad med eg chancellors for anything else that's undergrad- adelaide... Is Adelaide your first choice?? I thought you're from WA! Anyway you might get 99.95!

Go through the other utas threads one of the members posted an email response/ phone conversation with one of the utas staff which gave the 50/60/45 figures for first round and explicitly stated that you wouldn't be considers for first round of u haven't met these thresholds. This holds true especially given the subsequent offers to those who surpassed these

As for school leavers open up another thread . For utas interstate u need 99.95 and 99-100% to be considered it's a lot harder if you're not from tassie. If you're tassie usually school leavers need 150+ umat usually > 60th%

What?! That's so much easier for them wtf... I have friends in UTAS med and they certainly didn't get 99-100 percentile... They got the later round offers. Pretty sure you only need 100s for first round?? Idk

Okay you're not trolling now that I see you only want to do undergrad Med.
But what's wrong with postgrad, Flinders & Griffith are both 6 years and the credit GPA required isn't hard for a 99.95

Is Adelaide your first choice?? I thought you're from WA!

Yes I'm from WA. Adel is one of my dozen applications and I won't decide first choice until I know which one(s) is kind to offer me a place :-)

Yeah UTAS is definitely where I'd like to do med.. If I'm lucky to be offered there :( umat not so good.. People have been telling me that those unis are very new... So idk.. And not well established and kinda chill in the undergrad years? Idk really. And after year 12, I don't really want the stress of a hurdle like GPA or interview even if it's easy.. There's still an uncertainty and can cause unecessary stress for three years. So you'd do postgrad or anything?

@MedDent101 this threads for the people applying through non-standard pathway. AFAIK the UTAS Admissions are much lower in regards to UMAT and GPA than high-school leavers. So make a new thread there are definitely lurkers out there who are in similar position as you but this threads defs for non-standard.
