UTAS Entry 2016 - Non-Standard

Have you emailed the uni? and what were your section scores ?
I've gone in in person, but they've remained very tight-lipped about where I sit in the 'queue'. However I went in before I discovered AB15's result, so it might be worthwhile going in again.
My section scores are 65, 65, 59 for a total of 189.

have you applied through a pathway ? if so you are the last people to receive an offer and with your results which are pretty high across the board it seem like youre guaranteed an offer as a few people ( actual non standards.i.e. not using any academic pathway) have received offers with lower overall . the only other reason may be that their section 2 threshold has increased :S? other than that i havent a clue

Nah I'm not in a pathway (except perhaps being in BMedRes, which I'm told by the admissions people is the best degree to apply through). Yeah it seems strange, which is why I'm asking here. All I can do is wait I suppose! And relentlessly bug the admissions people, but mostly just waiting.

I feel aggrieved for you Jones. You might want to note on 1st page of this thread that non-rural Kawaisaki got a place with 92nd UMAT.
K got very good GPA but presumably it's hurdle only, so take that up with UTAS.

Yeah I think I will, it's starting to feel like I should have received no offer by now.

However I am a rural applicant (Tasmanian) so I'm not sure how that affected things. Possibly there's different quotas for rural and non-rural?

Being rural Tas you should get even higher priority.
Can't imagine UTAS would allocate quotas more generous to interstate.

i think for non-standards (including pathway/utas non-standards etc) GPA is a threshold, 50/60/50 rule, and then Utas ranks by section 2 (regardless of overall percentage). This was the trend for previous years.

God I hope not. I'll see if I can find that out too.

@Jones , relax you'll likely get one looking at offers from last year. It will be soon after QTAC offers are released tomorrow and UAC by the 20th. then people in their home states will reject this offer if they get offer from home unis. They went down to people sitting on 60 for S2.

Well I can't say that isn't a relief! Cheers for the info, sounds like I should stop stressing over this too.

I don't know if it is different for standards, this is how UTAS replied to my enquiry:

"I can confirm that UTAS does not apply a cut-off score for UMAT sections. We look at your performance in each section of the UMAT as well as your overall score. Please be assured that your application will be considered and you will be a competitive applicant (note: my S2 is 56).

Information in online forums is often based on hearsay and from what I have read of it is often very inaccurate or out of date."

Who was this correspondence from?

Hi AB15
Can you give me any more information? I'm very similar to you (GPA 6,UMAT 95th) and I haven't received an offer. Are you rural, what degree/uni have you come from etc.
Thanks!
Hey, I'm non-rural, have done 2 years at Adelaide uni, my section 2 score was 71 if that helps :)

Helps a great deal, thanks! I'm noticing that everyone so far who's received offers are interstate non-rurals, so it definitely seems like I'm in at different category.

I hope I see you next year!

My apology for spreading this ^^ useless UTAS info here.

I have now seen a person with 96%ile (overall 191 - 63/60/68) been offered a place, myself with 100%ile (overall 225 with S2=56) have not been. So obviously S2 alone plays a major part as reputed yet UTAS saw fit to advise "We look at each section of the UMAT as well as overall score".

Well that does seem strange though for such a good overall UMAT. Are you from Tasmania or interstate? Also have you applied for other med schools?
