UTAS Entry 2016 - Non-Standard

Hi,
I have not yet received an offer for UTAS. I am a non standard applicant with a UMAT percentile of 96.
My atar was 96.00 and WAM is currently at 77.
I am wondering if there is still a chance to receive an offer? Is the first round over now?

Offer came out immediately after midnight, apparently fired off by an automatic system.

Wish good luck to all who are still waiting and hope to see you all at UTAS.

Offer Details:
CSP
ATAR:95.5
WAM: 78%
UMAT: 98%
Non-rural
Interstate

Are you able to post your section scores? How did you calculate your WAM?

Hey guys, thought I should finally join the forum. I applied last year as a yr12 interstate leaver, ATAR: 97.5 UMAT: 96% (S1 score was only 48) and was offered a place in the BMedRes pathway which offers a place in undergrad med after completing medical research. I took the place and reapplied this year, GPA: 6.5 (WAM: 80 something, not sure), and UMAT: 89% (65/52/62). I think my umat has let me down again this year as s2 doesnt make the 60 cutoff. The other thing is I used my Tasmanian address for my application as I moved there at the beginning of last year to do BMedRes. I have not yet received an offer, goodluck everyone!

According to one of the older forums your application is processed with the standard applicants and you will receive an offer once they've determined the lowest umat score in that pathway, if yours is above set threshold you will receive an offer probably in February some time

hey mbkt07, yeah they use to rank us all together, but according to adele holloway who runs the BMedRes pathway program, non-standards (including pathways) are now ranked completely separately to standards. could you link me the member that posted that :) ? thankyou!

it was mentioned in the 2015 utas offers thread I think. If you're unsure call this number tel:(03)62264782 it will probably go to voice mail but she provides an alternative number and email address just email them your enquiry. Most pathways that I'm aware of UWS( no longer available) UNSW have a set number of positions for pathway students at uws it was 12 , non standards are allocate 24 positions ~20% of available positions. As for utas you have to confirm whether you are seperate from standards/ non standards .

Hey guys,

I'm a non-standard applicant currently studying at UTAS doing medical research (BMedRes). I just finished second year and have a WAM of >70% (GPA 6) over the last 2 and 3 semesters, and got in the 95th percentile for the UMAT (65, 65, 59). It seems strange that I haven't yet received an offer. Am I likely to get one, or should I start planning my third year?
Thanks

Have you called them? Didn't they said you should be getting one? That's so weird tho, hope you get it soon!

Is your GPA right on a distinction or below? I think they only consider non-standards on 70%+ (GPA 6+), but I would talk to them anyway, especially face to face

Yeah I've got more than 70% average, with a GPA of 6.11 (I think it was).

did you end up calling them ? what was the result did they confirm whether pathways have their own allocated positions or are they competing for the 24 positions withheld for the non standard applicants ?

Is anyone aware of how non-standard applicants are ranked?

Is GPA a hurdle and then applicants are ranked according to their UMAT scores, or does GPA have a particular weighting?

I am told by people in admissions that GPA, or rather average percentage, is simply a hurdle. So someone with a UMAT of 95 and an average percentage mark of 71% would likely get an offer before someone with a UMAT of 90 with an average of 87%.

is it percentile or individual section marks that they look at ?

Got an offer last night!

Hi AB15
Can you give me any more information? I'm very similar to you (GPA 6,UMAT 95th) and I haven't received an offer. Are you rural, what degree/uni have you come from etc.
Thanks!
