UTAS UTAS Medicine: Entry Information and Discussion

Honestly right now it's a bit premature to tell. UTAS has once again changed up their criteria and their selection process this year, which may no doubt impact the way in which candidates are selected. 95+ is just a threshold like you said, and a 95 is likely to be very uncompetitive in their selection process, whatever it may be. Your best bet is to wait and see when offers are released. Your ATAR is close to a 99, but according to their website they rank applicants based on ATAR once their UCAT has passed the 50th percentile threshold. Ultimately, you just need to wait and see.

Hi, I know the website says 95+ is just a threshold but I've only seen 99+ atar get an offer. Was wondering whether an atar of 98.80 with 98 percentile UCAT can get in.

As TKAO mentioned, UTAS is a bit of an unknown as it appears they’ve changed their entry formula.

If they do (as the website suggests) have a UCAT threshold and will then rank applicants based on ATAR, then given UTAS is direct entry and doesn’t have an interview, I’d expect the ATAR requirements to be in the mid-high 99s for interstate, non-rural applicants.

But only time will tell. The website is not always accurate/clear, unfortunately.

Since UTAS uses UCAT as a threshold what ATAR would be competitive for non-rural interstate entry?
This is difficult to predict with any certainty, given that this is the first year that UTas is using such a system. I think it would be reasonable to expect the ATAR requirement to be around the mid to high 99s.

Has anyone who has received an UTAS offer been able to login to the eStudent thing? My email works but eStudent does not....am I supposed to reset the password first? The password worked for the email.

Hmmm, I’m obviously not a new student, but I have been a UTAS student for almost longer than you’ve been alive (aaaghhahahaa!), and my email and eStudent login have always been the same.

I fixed it! I had to reset my password from the one they had given me to my own password before logging into eStudent (but the email and MyLO worked) even though the email said I can change it after 🙃

Congratulations on the offer! Was it for MBBS or another course?

Given this is the MBBS thread, I’m gonna hazard a guess... ;)

If you go into MyLO you might have an option to view the class list. If so, how many names are there?

It’s not a particularly useful piece of info, but can be interesting to follow the numbers as they move/the class fills up.

ETA: also, given you’re likely to get multiple offers (Cristina Yang doesn’t just get one!), what’s your preference?

Hi I'm a year 12 school leaver applying for medicine just about everywhere I can including UTAS. Just for context I received 99.65 ATAR and 86%ile UCAT (2780). I didn't do year 12 chemistry and was advised by UTAS to do their chemistry foundation unit. However I've found that I need to pay for the chemistry foundation unit by January 9th, but i'm worried about paying before even receiving an offer. It costs $1k and I don't want to pay it to be rejected from medicine the next day. I've emailed UTAS but have had no reply yet. Any ideas what I could do?

No no, it’s free! Well, it was when I did it three years ago. I remember there being this weird thing where it looked like it was going to cost $1000 but it didn’t, it was fully CSP.

Let me investigate.

The Investigation Part

I definitely didn't have to pay a cent for the course when I did it back in 2016, and it seems mc* didn't have to pay when they did it last year. The website currently makes it look like you are responsible for ~$1000. I'm trying to remember who it was I called when I got the incorrect account back in 2016 so that you might have a more direct person to speak to to confirm the fee requirements.

PS. I'm on the phone to UTAS, will report back :D

PPS. MHX I've just spoken to UTAS directly (1300 361 928) and they confirmed Foundation Units are entirely fee-waived when they're being used to meet pre-requisites. Yay! You will need to complete an eCaf form if you end up going down this path so that ScoMo picks up the tab. You should probably call them and get this info first hand, but I promise I'm not making things up.

Yes, and that you get a first round (not top up) offer. Oh that's great news! Thank you so much for the help!

I emailed admissions a few days ago and they said between the 6th to the 10th of Jan. Although, can we trust what they say? :/

Well, most of the uni was on holiday until the 6th, so that date as the 'earliest' would make sense. But keep in mind that UTAS has quite a high decline rate as people get offers in their home states, so even if they say 6th-10th, there will still be a large amount of offers that go out after UAC, QTAC, VTAC, SATAC, and TISC offer releases (all of which are on or after the 10th).

How many spots do they have? also, would a 99.6 be considered as a mid to high 99 and yes I know, first year they are doing this but can anyone suggest whether this is sufficient??? Thanks in advance :)

I think you answered your own question, in the question :) (but yes I would say 99.6 is a fair shot based on the fact griffith requires no ucat cut off and is only slightly higher). BUT Don't take my word for gospel (I am not utas admissions)

Agree, though worth noting that UTAS has an agreement with the TAS gov which means that the vast majority of UTAS places will go to Tas school-leavers. This will likely raise the interstate cutoff above what Griffith’s is (but UTAS is wildly unpredictable, so we’ll see).
