UTAS UTAS Medicine: Entry Information and Discussion

Yes I am aware. But aren't the offers that were released a small portion of all rural offers to be made. If so, then should we expect more to be released soon- sometime this month - or not?

The offers that have been made would have been a portion of offers that will eventually be made, but whether they were a small portion is impossible to say (I know of multiple other offers made - and accepted - to some local school leavers that were not reported here to MSO, for example). The 'please accept or decline' date for those who received offers already hasn't lapsed yet, so I can't imagine there will be more offers made until after that point in time at a minimum. I think someone mentioned the 14th of December for the cut off date? Let me check.

ETA: it was the 12th.

Ok I understand. I think that date is correct as that is when ATARs are released so hopefully more offers will come out afterwards!

I just added an ETA above. It was the 12th that was reported by someone who received one of those early offers. Post-ATAR offers to locals are due for release on the 19th of December.

ETA: again, keep in mind that some people getting early UTAS offers where it is not their first preference will still accept UTAS until they get confirmation of an offer elsewhere (UAC/VTAC, etc), which has the effect of delaying release of top-up offers until Jan, and possibly until even Feb.

With my provisional offer from UTas, they've said that I need a minimum ATAR of 95 after RAP equity bonus rank is applied. Does anyone know how much that bonus rank is? I'm RA3 and my school has an ICSEA rating of 949, which would give me +5 points if I was applying to other courses at UTas....
Based purely on my HSC marks I'm hoping to get 95, but if I fall short by a few decimals is there any hope? Thanks :D

We actually don't know the answer to this, sorry. We've had a couple of people report here in the past that they received the same wording as you, but all have gone on to get 95+ regardless, so it's been difficult to quantify what the equity bonus rank actually is/what it amounts to (if anything). If you could keep us posted, that would be great (though fingers crossed that you don't need it anyway!).

I got 95.60 so I won't be able to shed any light on what the equity rank is :D sorry, but I'm also too excited to be truly sorry haha

Congratulations! I am very glad for you that you’re no help to us whatsoever!!

For those with a conditional offer and who now have an ATAR, don’t be alarmed if you don’t get confirmation of your offer from UTAS right away. Last year I think it was mid-Jan. It’s just because it’s not a high priority task as Tas ATARs are out early next week, immediately followed by local offers.

It will definitely happen at some stage :D

What would be my chances of transferring to medicine after a year of BMedRes with UMAT 53/60/46 (65%ile) and a good GPA/WAM? I'm rural too but I guess that wouldn't affect transfer procedures, right?

I called Utas today regarding med offers and they said they call unsuccessful applicants to let them know that they have not received a offer. I have never heard of this, is this true?

Your UMAT won’t carry over, you’ll have to sit UCAT and that score will be used instead. You will still be able to make a rural application. A transfer will be via the competitive pathway, so you’ll be ‘competing’ against (I’d guess 100% of) your first year classmates and the second year cohort, and then anyone in third year who isn’t in the guaranteed entry pathway, too. I have no idea how many spot are set aside for competitive entry as this is the first year it’s happening in this manner.

ETA: to clarify, in your specific situation you’ll be competing against other rural applicants, but keep in mind that’s pretty much all Tas locals so most people in UTAS BMedRes will be eligible for rural entry.

It has never happened previously. They send a bulk email in about O Week to unsuccessful applicants. No way they’re ringing 2000+ applicants to tell them they didn’t get offers. No. Way.

Thought so. It's frustrating how every time I ask anything regarding their med program I get different answers.

I believe I can help, I received an early offer to uTas in November but have received an ATAR marginally under the 95 threshold. I discussed this with a uTas rep who insisted that the rural equity bonus would be enough to not make this an issue. Will continue updating but fingers crossed being slightly under won’t be an issue.

Ohh, if you could keep us updated that would be absolutely fantastic. Are you a Tassie local or from interstate? Was your UMAT 150+? Congrats on your offer!

ATARs for Tasmanian school leavers participating in the High Achiever's Program and University Connections Programs have been incorrectly calculated due to an administrative error. Those incorrect ATARs had been released to UTAS for use in making offers, but not yet to interstate Admissions Centres. UTAS have been informed not to use the initial ATARs and that updated ATARs will be supplied ASAP. MBBS offers for local students were supposed to be released today, but I suspect that will now be delayed. If any locals awaiting offers can keep us updated, or have any additional information, that would be fabulous :D

Best of luck to everyone!!

Oh my god.

I hope that everybody is going okay ..

Hi, I was wondering if we had any data of people who got into the Bachelor of Medical Research with guaranteed entry into the UTAS MBBS post-grad. Their website states a minimum ATAR of 90+ and minimum umat of 150+. Realistically, what would a non-rural student need to get into this scheme?

Thanks.

We do have this data (at least, that which was reported to MSO): Aus Med and Dent Place Offers 2018 - Collated Data (scroll down list to UTAS). You’re welcome :D

I highly doubt it but have Tasmanian local applicants received their offers yet?

I know someone who had their rural offer upgraded to a local school leaver offer yesterday so possibly, yes. The updated ATARs were going to students yesterday, so presumably they went to the Uni, too. Also, for those keeping count, that means at least one rural top-up offer to come :)
