JPM WSU/CSU JPM: Questions and Discussion

If JPM does the same as JMP i.e. selecting the interviewees first (so that they face the same UCAT cutoff) before allocating their interview locations then there's no higher chance, either you get one or you don't regardless of campus preference.

Otoh if JPM selects X WSU-pref interviewees and Y CSU-pref interviewees then likely the campuses will have different cutoffs, and we have no idea which one will be lower. Will someone be brave enough to ask JPM about this - not the cutoffs themselves but whether the same cutoff for both campuses.

all the places at CSU (other than rural) are bonded. So I was under the impression that if you didn’t get an unbonded spot at WSU, you were then in the running for a bonded spot at WSU, and if you didn’t get that then you’d get the CSU bonded spot (assuming you’ve preferenced WSU over CSU).
I can call them tomorrow to find out :)
 
I've confirmed with them over the phone this morning and it will be similar to JMP's process- they said they will determine a UCAT cut-off, interviews will commence and after you've been allocated an interview mark they will use this in conjunction with your UCAT/academic mark AND your preference to allocate you to a campus. So there isn't going to be a difference in the UCAT cut-offs for either campus

Update for interstate applicants, interviews have been pushed to late January. They will still be conducted via zoom.

I wonder if this means anything in regards to chances of getting an offer.

I think it would have little impact. Usually interstate interviews do occur mid jan if I remember correctly and then offers come out later than that.

This is the method WSU have used in the past. It was only last year that they switched to interviewing all in Nov/Dec. So, in effect, JPM is just reverting to a timing method WSU is already very familiar with. It won't impact offer chances, but will impact the date you receive an offer.

Do you happen to know if this extends to interstate rural applicants?

The individual I spoke with over the phone seemed a bit uncertain as the update is very recent. They said that unless the university gets in contact with you directly then you should expect a late January interview date. The only individuals that they could certainly say had different arrangements were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.
 
Hi A1 , I've read through the various blogs on UCAT section weightings by WSU - but just wanted confirmation. Am I right to say that in giving interview invites, WSU/CSU does not consider the SJT sub-section of the UCAT at all? The discussion on weightings was silent on that particular section and only talked about VR, DM, QR and AR. Thanks!

WSU has never revealed how they weight the UMAT/UCAT sections. All the other schools said on their websites they weren't going to use SJT last year so we could only assume WSU didn't. The data seem to support that too.

Here are four sets of scores that were close to the cutoff
VR: 670, DM: 750, QR: 880, AR: 890, Total: 3190, SJ: 600, %ile rank: 99
VR: 670, DM: 680, QR: 880, AR: 890, Total: 3120, SJ: 678, %ile rank: 98
VR: 700, DM: 720, QR: 800, AR: 800, Total: 3020, SJ: 630, %ile rank: 97
VR: 830, DM: 700, QR: 640, AR: 610, Total: 2780, SJ: 667, %ile rank: 86

We can see the heavy weighting on VR - 830 needed just 86%ile vs 670 needed 98-99%ile. Otoh their SJTs are up/down with no clear pattern.
 
Has anyone confirmed they will be using the same heavy VR weighting they did last year?
Or possibly weigh a different section heavier this year instead?
 
We havent even confirmed that the way we think they weighted last year was the actual weighting. WSU is notoriously secretive about their weighting so I doubt they would confirm it for you.
