JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

So no one that we know on MSO got in with a score lower than 730??

More specifically we know that someone with a 726.4 got one whilst someone with a 726.2 missed out. Allowing us to pretty precisely guess the cut off was 726.4 or 726.3

680 vr 730 dm 890 ar 900 qr (98th%) non rural non gws but no invite yet

Possibly because, as has been mentioned multiple times, interviews are rolling out over the course of this week.

ETA: and, in case it’s relevant, for interstate applicants, in Dec (as has also been mentioned multiple times).

JPM/WSU formula (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 750.2
I got my invite at 12 today
JPM/WSU formula (58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR): 697
OMGGGGG I got the interview today @ 12:02pm!!!!!!!!

The MSO weighting formula seems to hold up well. Previous lowest invites LMG! recorded were 754.2 General, 700.8 GWS. Today we see top-ups(?) with 750.2 & 697.

Congrats to gichhponani & qUiCkMaThS btw, best of luck with your interviews.

JPM/WSU formula: 731.8

Now this^ has thrown a curved ball to the MSO formula, quite a big gap down from previous lowest 750.2 for the formula to be valid :(

I just noted that SJ 692 is quite high i.e. if taken into consideration it would compensate for this big gap. So maybe WSU is using SJ, or EAS, for interview selection this year?

(See hazell 's post below)

I think they received an invite for JMP not JPM 😬

A1 adds: Thanks, the JMP/JPM obfuscation has just scored another victim haha.

Isn't it 702.4 with the JPM formula? And wasn't the lowest recorded 700.8 for GWS?

There was another applicant with 702.4 who didn't get a first round invite despite the lowest recorded then was 700.8. Now we see Pearlwu's 702.4 get a top-up meaning it wasn't far from the 1st round cutoff. So either JPM has changed the weightings slightly this year, or the formula is a good approximation but not accurate to +/- 5 marks.

I reviewed the borderline scores and it appears JPM has reduced the weighting on VR. With the current formula we had this situation:

A - 600 / 860 / 880 / 800 = 700.8 - First round invite
B - 640 / 800 / 760 / 800 = 702.4 - No 1st round invite, yes top-up
C - 670 / 770 / 720 / 750 = 702.4 - No 1st round invite, top-up not seen posted.

The current formula was derived from 5VR + DM + QR + 1.5AR. If I change to 4VR the comparisons become
A - 600 / 860 / 880 / 800 = 5340 - First round invite
B - 640 / 800 / 760 / 800 = 5320 - No 1st round invite, yes top-up
C - 670 / 770 / 720 / 750 = 5295 - No 1st round invite, top-up not seen posted.

This would perfectly explain the invite-topup sequence, but again it's purely guesswork we can't say for sure. I would need to verify the 4VR against all other scores to make sure no contradiction elsewhere but I have no enthusiasm for that 🤣

Does it also explain the rural user who missed out? I can't remember their details but will see if I can find them.

ETA: it was GWS, not rural, WSU / CSU JPM Interview Invite Discussion (and I'm guessing that's the user you have at C?)

A1 replies: Yes that's C.

WSU School of Medicine wants to know your location...

VR 900 on its own will get a WSU interview and if it doesn't bring a place offer, all I can say is WSU selection process contradicts itself 🤣

Is the way VR is used for place offers the same as selecting for the interview? As in the same WSU formula is used?

We only know that WSU place offer is 75% interview + 25% UCAT, can't say for sure what the section weightings are for this 25% UCAT.

What I meant is unrelated to this though. By our calculations WSU appears to weight VR 5 times as much as the other sections, which is unusual. If a student who maxes out this all important section then turns out to not interview well enough for a place, it doesn't speak well for using such lopsided weightings IMO.

every time I think about my AR I want to cry...
What does the score/number mean, and does it only apply at WSU?
WSU are very particular about their weightings to each section. If you don't understand the numbers, don't worry! There will be a dedicated thread later on to run you through your chances at specific universities.

they have a weighting system and you have a combined score (e.g 900 x 58% for VR), where they add ur scores together after the weightings for a total combined score. Last year usually above 700 total score after weightings would be enough but you have excelled this by a lot so your fine
