JPM WSU/CSU JPM: UCAT Section Weighting Discussion and Questions

Your score helps indicate VR 60% was more likely than 55%. With the 60% formula the lowest GWS with an invite is
Is it likely they used a different formula for top up offers, as i noticed people got top up invites with significantly lower scores, someone's total added up to 678.9 I believe?

Is it likely they used a different formula for top up offers, as i noticed people got top up invites with significantly lower scores, someone's total added up to 678.9 I believe?

I got four new sets of scores today, three fit in with the previous formula, the fourth required me to rework.

The weightings are now better presented in factors as VR + 0.2xDM + 0.2xQR + 0.3xAR
(equivalent to 58%VR + 12%DM + 12%QR + 18%AR in percentage terms).

The new lowest is 726.4 non-GWS, 685.0 GWS.

Heyy A1, was just wondering what top-up means?

Heyy A1, was just wondering what top-up means?
Not A1 but a top-up, as the name suggests, is when a university/tertiary admissions centre contacts you to arrange an interview/place offer despite initially missing out. Let's say WSU invited 500 people to an interview, but 50 people couldn't make it and so declined their offers. Their interview circuits are now 50 people short, so they contact the next 50 people on the waiting list to ask them whether they would like still like to attend an interview. These are called top-up offers invites. (edited by A1 - please use invites for interview to avoid mixing up with place offers).

Is there any known reason that WSU emphasizes so much on VR?

Is there any known reason that WSU emphasizes so much on VR?

Nope. And WSU themselves haven’t even confirmed this is the case. MSO users posting their data helped us figure this out ourselves. WSU largely say nothing on the matter (as was also the case for their UMAT section weighting).

I had gotten 688.8, would I even have had a chance based on last years statistics?

I am also from the GWS region

Damn, but it would've had to be from a top-up offer rather than initially right?
Yeah, if we take A1's weightings as gospel, you would not have made the initial 691 cutoff, but you would later receive a top-up invite. As for this year, anything can happen, such as:
  • UCAT scores shifting in either direction
  • WSU changing up their weightings
That said, fingers crossed everything turns out well for you 🥰🥰

Thanks so much, one could only hope. 😔

Has anyone gotten any clues from e-mails, etc. as to whether (or how) the weightings will change this year?
Any speculation?
What trends from UMAT have you seen over the years?

WSU reveal very little information about their selection criteria. I don’t know how they came to decide on their UCAT weightings, but I can’t imagine a rationale for changing it up again until they’ve actually observed the cohorts they’ve admitted with said criteria and their performance in medical school - after this they’d be more inclined to make changes.

But hey, that’s just speculation and we really have no clue what they’ll do - and I doubt we’ll find out anything officially from WSU. We will have to wait and see when interviews are released.

I got a 720 in VR and I think i just qualify for GWS, my overall was 2930. Do I have a shot at an interview?

Just kidding, I don't qualify for GWS :(
