Re. UAC CODES

This happens every year (and drives us mods crazy because people panic about it every year), but please believe me when I say:

Do not read anything into the UAC codes. They are notoriously inaccurate and misleading. If you are concerned, contact UAC directly, but please don’t reply with post after post here because there is nothing more that we can tell you other than... this happens every year, and it means nothing!

To illustrate, two years ago I had the UAC codes suggesting offers were made to more competitive applicants and that I’d not met the academic hurdle. This was despite having a GPA of 7.00 and going on to receive CSPs from both JMP and WSU.

Hello, just confirming that if I received an offer for Usyd Med this round, I can drop it down to the bottom of my preferences and tray again for my other courses for next round? Also, when do we need to enrol by - does anybody know?

Myself I wouldn't drop it down until after I have accepted/enrolled in the offered course. Once that's done yes you are free to promote other courses higher to get more offers in later rounds (except for TISC as I have mentioned in other posts, where if you get a new offer you forfeit the earlier one).

Enrol-by date if not mentioned in the offer you need to ask USyd or UAC whoever sent you the offer.

Which people? Accepting an offer and enrolling in a course doesn’t make you ineligible for another offer in a different offer round. This applies to all TACs EXCEPT TISC - where you would lose the earlier offer if you get a new one.

(Edited by A1 for clarity).

Ahh so I've accepted, but have not yet enrolled. Would you say it's safe to drop it down? Just want to be able to try out for all my other courses without jeopardising the current offer.

The schools have slightly different approaches to offer/accept/enrol so it's difficult to generalise. I have read on MSO, in some cases the Acceptance process takes you to an Enrolment screen which you need to complete for the Acceptance to be finalised. In your case since it did not take you to Enrolment, plus if you have a record your Acceptance has been recorded, then I'd say it's safe to move the prefs.

Drawing from your past experiences, is it wise to accept and complete the enrolment process of a course that has been offered to me in Dec before learning of any outcome on Jan the 10th?
Or, do most people wait until Jan 10th before enrolling into the courses that has accepted their application? Reason why I’m asking is because I don’t wish to start unnecessary paperwork inconveniencing enrolment centre staff.

It depends on whether the offer you have received mentions a date you have to accept and/or enrol by. You can leave it until after 10th Jan if it doesn't infringe on this date.

Note for some schools you can accept without enrolling, but for some both are done together.

I swear I get the weirdest course preference statuses lol (yes I know not to read into them too much but just wondering if they're any cause for concern).

All my UAC preferences say "Decision Pending - English Language Requirements" which I guess makes sense since I took my IB outside of Australia (or the other 20 or so countries they don't ask too many questions about) and this hasn't changed since I first submitted my application a month ago.

Also, 4 of my SATAC preferences say 'Awaiting Assessment' all of them are from UAdel so I assume that UAdel just hasn't processed them yet. However, 2 of them from UniSA have changed from 'eligible for consideration' to 'not currently eligible for consideration' within the course of a day and I find this kind of concerning. I've contacted SATAC to ask if they actually have received my IB grades and UCAT score and that they know that I've already taken the exams (TISC emailed me asking me to confirm that i was a NOVEMBER 2020 IB student, which I had to hastily reply to and confirm that I was MAY). Just wondering if SATAC also has a history of being... interesting with statuses? Or should I legitimately be concerned lol

The unis/schools wouldn't be involved or reviewing your application at this early stage. Any status codes you see are preliminary by someone at the TAC or just automated. Don't read much into them yet.

Regarding your IB English, have a read of this post just in case > JCU Non-Standard Entry

Out of interest, which English did you take, Literature or Language and Literature?

Thanks a lot, yeah I thought that they wouldn't have been seeing my results yet but wanted to make sure.

Standard Level Language and Literature, I got a Grade 6.

You might wanna contact the relevant admissions centres/unis about whether L&L is recognised as an equivalent. I know from personal experience that Literature alone is sufficient (and it's the English course that most IB schools in Australia offer), but I'm not so sure about L&L. Looking at A1 's linked post about someone's IB English course not being considered as an equivalent also makes me think that they could have taken L&L and there might be a problem with that, so definitely ring someone up and double check.

L&L may be okay. Iirc the IB student in question took the one that was considered equiv to English as a Second Language for Aus students. But yes, should double check.

Oh that probably makes more sense then, because from what I can tell English A L&L is on par with Literature skills-wise, it just focuses more on contemporary sources of language (advertisements etc.). I imagine that English B would be a bit of a problem for TACs to confirm the candidate's exact level of English though.

I know it's equivalent for UAC, will double check for any other admissions centre that doesn't explicitly say. Thanks!

When im applying through SATAC to uni of Adelaide for rural entry, does anybody know if there is anything else I need to fill in other than the statutory declaration and attach this to my SATAC application. surely there is some box I have to tick where it asks if I am rural or something?

I'm not 100% sure on whether there's something specific you need to 'tick' but I do know from previous years that the key thing for rural via SATAC is that you have to have the stat dec back by the date they give you or you are not considered and there is no way around this. We had someone last year or the year before who was ~2 days late and they were denied rural pathway eligibility, so make sure you know all the important dates.
