That talk on thursday night really got me thinking particularly what the med student told us ..

Did anyone else find that the helping people, challenge , ongoing learning, (fun) was what they had written on their mh03s? I seem to have covered all those points in my draft of my mh03 ... now i don't know what to do. Those are all contributing factors but i don't want to sound like everyone else...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks(yy)

@ jennyette

Im not sure how interviews went for other people, but mine was structured in a good cop / bad cop manner. I wouldn't say i was cornered, but at times, it did feel a bit confrontational. One would agree / praise pretty much every response while the other questioned each response.

In a way, your interview experience depends on who you get assigned to.
Nervousness ? Definitely.

Good luck !

@ jh12

I distinctly remember feeling the same way myself, last year.

You think you know what to write, maybe even have it drafted or completed, only to hear them shoot down every other idea that you had.

For me, I freaked out a bit, took a few days to think it over, and then thought, screw it. What I've written is sincere and truthful. If this is truly how I feel, then it should be fine.

Only recommendation would be to make it a little bit more personal, rather than just stating what you want, demonstrate that you want it, such as through things that you have done, experiences that you have had etc...

Also remember that what you put in that MH03 is what interviewers like to ask about.

Good luck !

there's absolutely nothing you can put in the MH03 that they haven't read a million times before. Best to sound just like everyone else than come across as an idiot by trying to be overly original. Everything is based on the impression you give in the actual interview anyway.

In contrast, i was asked only 1 question about my Mh03 form during my interview, and it was at the very end, posed as "oh, just about this thing that you mentioned in your form", and my answer was not more than 1 sentence long...

I honestly doubt that they even bothered to read it. In fact, half way thru the interview, one of them started scribbling on it (from boredom i assumed)

good to have an actual med student back me up on the opinion that the MH03 isn't really that important.

What i was trying to get at, my good sir, is that it can go either way. I've had friends who told me that their interview was more or less going over the entire MH03 forum and explaining what they wrote to the panel. As for myself, it wasn't brought up till they very end with one quick question.

Situational indeed

Oh my bad! Of course I didn't mean to say that you shouldn't take time to do the MH03 carefully, but rather that its not going to be something that's a make or break ie the face to face impression weighs much more heavily on a persons decision than what you've written down, which is likely similar to what everyone else has written down anyway.

In terms of my MH03 I felt it was quite personal. Some of the things I talked about:

- My faith as a Christian and how medicine as a profession ties into it.
- My experiences as a patient and the profound difference some very good doctors have made in my life.
- My upbringing from a cultural minority and the impacts that miscommunication can have on healthcare provided.
- My intergenerational family structure (I live with my grandma and some little cousins) and the ways I've witnessed ill-health impact them.

I think they only asked me 1-2 specific questions from the MH03 form. Though because I really talked about my faith and my involvement at my church, I felt that they really challenged with lots and lots of ethical questions just to see my POV.

Hope that helps some of you, all the best!

say you come out of the interview without feeling that the interviewers have tried to challenge you/they haven't posed any challenging questions, would you interpret that as a good or bad sign, or would that just be down to the style of the interiewers?

Thanks for your advice guys.

I've tried making it personal, but now i think ive gone to the other extreme haha

Just too much of a perfectionist...

Regarding the extra curricular activities section on the MH03
how deep are they going to delve into it?

Say, if i was the leader of students against driving drunk at school, will they expect me to know all the facts and how the nation is coping with this situation?
or are they more looking towards what i did as a leader or something
because i'm a bit unsure as to how much i should REALLY know, how much i can actually elaborate if i were asked some specific, detailed questions.

thank you!

@govpop

the link to the online mh03 application is here! :)

You should know enough about your extra-curricular activity so that you can answer fluently when they question you. But most importantly, talk about how it affected you- what you learned, why you did it, what experiences did you have etc.

They can search up the objective information on the internet. What they want is you.

I wasn't really asked anything about my MH03, but do note that both g.walker and I had our interviews on the last day, and neither of us had many questions based off the MH03.

good luck with your MH 03 forms guys. I've looked over one applicant's forms this year and it seems that you are all going to be clearly overqualified :P

but i'm more than willing to look over others if people want. just send me a private message

on a side note, first written exam on tuesday eek! then another the tuesday after before finishing med school exams for good!
