It's purely SAQs. This year: 14 questions, with a total of 100 marks.

Not just MCQs but they added some random appendix which im assuming is going to be some reading relevant in drawing a PECOT diagram, and maybe some ethnic data.

Also Rod's changed his section by making us design a study based on information they give us (something along the lines of that) <_<

Oh, I forgot about that haha xD

Yeah, so many changes cannot be good. I mean, for the study, it could be very subjective in terms of answering it. Sure, sometimes the study design is obvious, but most times, you may have multiple study designs that may apply to that situation.

By the way, does anyone know if case-control studies are going to be tested on in the depth that was covered for the other types of studies in Module 1?

Nope don't think so, just learn what it is and its strengths and weaknesses. Don't think we need to know in how to design one

Btw, did we learn about different types of environmental hazards. It's in the 2010 pophlth exam q18 c.

Of the top of my head, no, we didn't. Strange...let me look at my notes.

ETA: Ok, Nogeat I did not find anything about that in my notes :O

Let's see if 4everAlone knows something about this.

(I thought that it MAY have been mentioned, but not in Module 2...?)

Going through my notes (I don't remember ANYTHING from first year) we had a whole lecture on it from Dan...lecture 19 maybe it got scrapped?

Basically there's biological hazards, chemical hazards, physical hazards, mechanical hazards, and psychosocial hazards. Pretty straightforward to guess at what fits into those categories too!

Thanks, 4everAlone! :D (Haha, of course you don't have to remember much from first year ;))

It's still Lecture 19, except now we have "The Built Environment and Population Health" about how what it is, how it's measured, and the Walkability Index, etc., so nothing at all about the 5 environmental hazards.

I guess that means no need to learn it.

That was our lecture 20 so they've obviously cut that environmental one out...one less thing to learn wooo!

Whoo, yeah! :p

But it also makes studying from past exam papers quite confusing, haha. Wonder why it got scrapped? :O

True that, it must also get quite confusing with the new format and everything...which like you say sounds heaps more subjective!

Probably got scrapped because it was a crap lecture (but I suppose if they did it like that there wouldn't be many lectures left!)

Yeah, they pretty much told us the new format in the wrap up lecture and left us in the deep end, saying "Oh, there's a 12 mark question, but don't worry, it's broken up into parts, so it won't be one huge question." (Among other little tidbits of info.)

(Haha, guess so! But at the end of it, we still used up all of the poplhlth lecture days before exam break.)

Hey guys, you don't possibly think they could ask us about the levels of ethnicity data....? Because I didn't pay attention to that workshop at all....
And by appendix, do you think they will give us a actual PECOT diagram and tell us to work backwards and make up a study/scenario fitting the PECOT diagram...?

I think that they could ask about the levels of ethnicity data because the appendix could actually be for that, and not the study design question, you know? You better go over the workshop 3 tutor's notes :3

A given scenario would be much more likely, possibly a PECOT diagram with that (?) and then a study design needs to be drawn up from that. (Just my thoughts.)

To be honest, we could speculate and not get anywhere much. :p (Feel free to oppose me on this.)

Well the only person who knows the new exam format is the examiner him/herself, so i guess we can only hope that it's not something crazy -_-
