I was thinking of setting up mentoring sessions over the year for people that might want to go over interview stuff, but I don't know if there would be enough people interested to start up a group at Auckland. I know some first years get mentoring if they have received a scholarship etc, but I think that should be available to everyone
Any thoughts?
That would be very helpful PowerPuff, thank you for spending your time to help others =)

It might be a little difficult to co-ordinate with internship but not impossible, I like a challenge :)

Igneel no probs, medicine is all about helping people :D I'm already excited about next year

PowerPuff - Wow, sounds like a great plan for premeddies! :) If only we had had something like this this year.

Hi I have just completed first year and i am going to do Pharmacology Year 2 next year, and I am in the process of choosing papers at the moment, and i want to apply for medicine in Australia and Auckland, so would anyone recommend me doing any particular papers that are easy and interesting? And also do you think that Physiology is easier especially for 3rd year than Pharmacology?

Thanks :)

[offtopic]Moved the above discussion to a more relevant thread, please keep threads on-topic guys! Cheers :) [/offtopic]

That's a really good idea, PowerPuff. I was trying to convince my friends to set this up and do it with me, but they didn't seem too keen to do it for free so I just dropped it. I am keen to help out if you need any more people! I think it's a great idea for those who are worried about the interview or want to find out more about the structure of the course or whatever. I would have loved to have had something like this in my first year, it would have saved me a lot of money and stress!

Sounds great! Yes, its tough in first year because there are all these courses etc and that costs money, quite unnecessary as well. This sort of thing should be free, and I would LOVE help. I tried initiating interest and helping out people at my high school but there weren't really any kids committed enough to do med, and then I really didn't know how to find people to mentor. MSO is indeed a great site, I wish I had found this much earlier
Anyhow, I will message you shortly :)

Just under a week until first round offers, guys. Anyone else s**ting themselves?

How many people do they usually take off the waitlist?

from my memory of the info evening in october there are usually 20 people on the waitlist, and approximately 15 get in. that being said, at the same info evening they told us that a couple of years ago they offered places to people who had originally been declined entry, because lots of people also get accepted into other medical schools (otago, australia etc).

I think offers were sent out at 4pm during previous years? I can't say for sure. Sometimes I wonder how I 'know' the things I do.

Yes that's right, offers are sent out at the end of the day, and then the office closes for 2 weeks, but they do reply to emails

In my year they were sent out during the day...I got mine at about 11am and most of my friends knew by about 1 at the latest. One found out at 3. But that isn't to say it hasn't changed.

SO, are offers all released at once 2mrw? or are they staggered?
I've heard that they are staggered but im just confirming haha
Goodluck to all, hope we get the xmas present we want!

I have heard of the staggered release as well, I'm at work the whole day.... its going to be a long day..

People have mentioned they are staggered, not sure if we will receive e-mails or whether it will be purely online in the Auckland Apply website? If the former then it makes sense that they'd stagger the emails as they have a fair few to send out.

same here, work from 730 till 5 with no internet .. i'm too nervous to let anyone check for me haha. best of luck for tomorrow :)

For me it was staggered release and just on SSO - it wasn't emailed. Could have changed but staggered release and SSO still seems logical
