I just accepted a couple of days back so it won’t let me do any of that stuff, I’m having trouble logging into my portal but they said that happens with a lot of the International student accounts! Did you have any trouble with your account? I’m from British Columbia!! Have you chosen your accommodation?
Hey. Congrats on the offer! Did you manage to login yet? I am having the same problem and just wanted to choose an accomodation before all the good ones are taken. Also I don't think there is any group set up for dentistry students

Thank you!!:) I still haven’t managed to login, I believe CSU said once everything is sent to us, we can log in then! Yeah same here, don’t want it all to get taken up but if you guys want, message my separately & we can set one up, we’ll add everyone as they come

That makes sense. I assumed we would not be able to login until we submitted everything and confirmed our place. Have you looked at accommodation off campus as well? Oztrekk has a couple of pre departure webinars on the site and I found those quite helpful in terms of what to expect. We can definitely set those up and add people later

I haven’t taken a look at those but I’ll probably look at that soon!! Thank you:) & yeah for sure, let’s get one started

I’m not sure if they’ve changed it at all, but when I accepted I had to pay the first semester tuition to secure my spot in the class
How was your first year like in terms of course load...? What is the city like? And the campus? What about the weather? And also the people? Thanks!

First year is going pretty well. I was fortunate enough to receive transfer credits so the course load hasn’t been as heavy compared to other students, but regardless, all of the dentistry topics are fairly challenging. I’m from Calgary so compared to back home the city is pretty small but has everything you need shops wise. The campus is really small and separate from Orange so it kind of feels like you’re in your own little bubble which definitely has some positives and negatives. That being said the people are really nice here and given the small campus size there’s ample opportunity to make good friends!

How did you go about getting transfer credits?

How many hours a week is the first year chemistry course and labs? I was thinking about getting transfer credits for the chem course, but its been a while since I took the course so I am still unsure about it. Also how are we graded in the courses, do we have tests once every few weeks like in Canada or is it different?

Hey! Does anyone know if the tution fee is refundable if one decides to not go?

I have no idea if there are some differences for international students, so it might be best to check directly with the Uni, but this is definitely the case for domestic students as long as they withdraw from the unwanted course/s before census date, which is a few weeks into semester.

Hey, the tuition fee is refundable for international students, however from the documents I have received it says they will keep 10% so $2720 and return the rest (90%) to you, if you decide to withdraw later on. You can double check with the university, just to make sure

Question! You know how you have to send in the receipt of proof that you have payed the fee, that’s all they need right? Even if the actual transfer takes up couple of days and goes past the acceptance deadline?

Chemistry was actually one of the courses I received credit in so unfortunately I won’t be much help there. But in regards to the grading scheme, it’s different for every class. Most have a midterm and final for tests as well as a lab component that will make up the bulk of the marks, I think bms has weekly tests too. Some courses, mostly the dent ones have a “hurdle” policy where you have to pass every single component of the course to pass the year, not just get a cumulative 50%

Hey there, I'm a first yr dent student too. With regards to ur question bout the chem course, the Chem course is your standard 3 lectures a week with one of the lectures being 2hrs long and the others being 1hr. On top of that you will have a 3hr lab each week with an 1hr tute. Assessments come from 4 online assessments, a lab component and a final exam.

Hi! I'm also an international student from Canada. I got my offer on Wednesday and have accepted it, just waiting on further instructions for the payment.

Did you live on campus? If so which one? I'm would ideally like to be in one with cooling available but it's so expensive. Also if you are cooking, is there a grocery store nearby? It seems like there is not much near campus and limited buses, so I'm worried about getting around.

I do live on campus! Each res kinda has its pros and cons. The majority of dents live in narrambla but in my opinion scv is the best bang for your buck. The temp isn’t a problem at all but worst case scenario you can buy a fan to cool the room down. The shops are definitely a drive not a walk away, so initially it’s kind of a pain to get into town, but the international liaison takes you the first couple times to shop then your next best bet is to find a friend with a car. Usually the RA’s are more than willing to help!

For the hurdles in the dent courses do you get multiple attempts if you are unsuccesful the first time or are you expected to pass everything on your first attempt?

Question: I accepted couple days back and still haven’t received an email from CSU, did it take long for other people too before they heard back? I have paid the deposit and the agency that I went through said it should be good but it’s making me nervous not having heard back from the university.

I sent my deposit with my health insurance payment on June 27. I got my receipt for the health insurance July 1st and for my deposit July 12th --- so about 2 weeks time.
