Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

That’s a tough case,

But the way QTAC calculated sounds accurate unfortunately as they look at your latest year of study and transferred units are normally non-graded. Could you tell her to check her new transcript and see if the grades for the transferred units appear? If they do, she might be able to contest it maybe? If not, it seems a bit hard to peruse :(

I am in the same situation! I did Biomedical Science with Honours for my first trimester at Griffith this year, and then transferred over to Biomedical Science (no honours) in my second trimester where I finished another four courses and got credit for all four of my trimester 1 courses from the previous degree. The courses were exactly the same since they are foundation year subjects in griffith health and this all happened within one year. So I physically completed 8 courses (80 credit points) with a gpa 7 in the same year, but transferred some of my credits to my current degree within this time. I am really worried, so I hope I have the same chance in getting an offer as everyone else :(

Leiaskywalker - I did the exact same thing as you (albeit several years ago now!) - do the grades from your transfer credits appear next to the credited units under the Biomedical Science degree on your transcript, or only under the accelerated honours degree? When I had units credited I specifically asked for the grades to be transferred.

If your grades transferred in the process, you should be fine. If they didn’t, request that they be transferred over ASAP via AskUs and they should sort that out for you.

Thanks for the reply Nirav. Totally get where u r coming from. However, in her case she didn’t complete 2 years or anything from another degree. She just completed 8 units in total within the 2 degrees and also the units within the 2 degrees are the same core units which are shared within the 2 degrees. Hence why this is a very different situation to what others may have faced. Also, personally I don’t see any of it as unfair because end of the day she did work hard to get 8 HD’s within the year with all her units. The credits are basically for the same units for her course, therefore it makes no difference!
Cheers for the reply anyway! And all the best to you.
I was just giving an example of my situation and may be helpful to understand the process at Griffith. I hope you did not take anything in a wrong way.
Griffith admission office is the best way to get any information as your case is unique. I wish best of luck.

@Sal here are the units for first year Bachelor of Dental Health Science (1577) With the 5 year degree it seems the first year is predominately general knowledge of biology/sciences which high school students wouldn't have really covered and with one unit specific to dentistry. I am also hoping to get some units credited if I am fortunate enough to receive an offer however I recall seeing that they aren't too lenient on giving credit, though its completely subjective

Btw how do you guys know that Griffith is making offers on UAC on 11 Jan. I know 11 Jan is UAC's offer round but when I called UAC and Griffith they were very vague. They essentially said they will make offers when they do which didn't really answer my question.

I think on UAC website it says next major January round is on 11th Jan.
on QTAC it specifically says 16th January.

Still sitting on pending for Griffith  the anxiety is real ..
Not to worry. I think it is just a process. It is the responsibility of QTAC to make your application ready before the offer rounds.

Is there any disadvantage to only applying through QTAC? Though unlikely, is it possible that the majority of offers are sent through UAC due to duplicate offers and therefore more people who have applied through QTAC have to wait till second round?

I believe the only 'disadvantage' is that you have to wait a couple more days for your offer if you get one. I see what you mean with your explanation, but I'm not sure. I don't believe that's been mentioned here before.

I don’t believe this is an issue - Griffith compile both lists (UAC and QTAC applicants) and rank applicants from both TACs in one pool - while someone may receive their offer through both, I don’t think their “second” offer through QTAC is in the place of other applicants as the duplicates would’ve been identified by Griffith. I’ve read that Griffith make a point of stating to only apply through either UAC or QTAC (not both) to reduce the confusion/workload but it seems people insist on doing it each year anyway!

what subjects are you looking to get credit for? i've completed a bachelor of science and I'm hoping to get credit for pretty much all of the first year subjects except the dentistry specific courses. But for now, i'm just hoping i get an offer first haha
