Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Last year UAC had 99.80 cutoff for Griffith GC Med, then QTAC came out with 99.50. Same thing could be happening this
So UAC have uploaded the cut offs for the January round and for dental hygiene, technology and prosthetics/technology the ATAR is 99.95. So it seems for dental science once released by QTAC it’s going to be very high!
You mean, GPA = 7?🤭 If that’s the case, would they look at the quality of GPA 7? I.e. the actual percentage of the paper? Also, does Griffith uni have access to actual uni results or only the GPA that qtac send to uni? Thanks!

ETA: Oops wrong emoji - it should be a shocking face!

Ahh so since you can apply for certain courses through both UAC and QTAC, I assume they put all the applicants together and then allocate offers based on ATAR. And for whatever reason there might be overall higher ATAR applicants for QTAC compared to UAC so that’s why the cutoff is higher for the time being on UAC? Anyway it looks very competitive!

We still didn't figure out why 99.8 UAC vs 99.5 QTAC. I thought Griffith would have made the selection/cut-off then sent to QTAC & UAC so they should be the same, but they weren't last year.

Are you talking about Griffith dent or med? Dent was 99.8 but med top up was 99.5.

I realised this is Griffith Dent thread but PT2 was saying about UAC cutoffs so I used Griffith Med last year to show UAC cutoff could be different to QTAC's for the same course. Griffith Med last year was 99.80 through UAC but 99.60 (iirc) through QTAC, then top-ups were 99.50.

In previous years, UAC shows <5 offers for dental hygiene/prosthetics/tech so the cutoffs for the certain rounds were not disclosed. This year UAC has disclosed cutoffs for all degrees so the 99.95 is probably a small sample (of probably prospective dental science students). Also, you can get bonus points for dental hygiene/prosthetics/tech (but not dental sci) so maybe applicants maxed out their selection rank.

Yeah that’s true. I wonder how many bonus points are available as well for those degrees. It’s going to be a long weeks wait.

"You can receive a maximum adjustment of six (6.00) ranks under this pathway. The total adjustments you can receive for University courses is four (4.00). The maximum adjustments that you can receive under all pathways are capped at eight (8.00)."

Yep :( I have one exam to clear 1FTE study early next week so there's a lot of uncertainty and pressure on my end (I have organised the faculty to mark it really quickly but ya never know).

I reckon you can be pretty confident with your Hons1 but yeah this week is going to go by very slowly. Good luck though!

What do4/6/8 ranks mean to atar ?

Not 100% sure but I think QLD bonus points function similarly to NSW where you just add the number of points onto your ATAR to get your selection rank i.e. 97.5+2=99.5. This operates differently to other states where bonus points are added to the ATAR aggregate. These bonuses don't apply to Griffith dentistry though.

I know , I was just trying to work out implications for dentistry.
Last yr cut off for dental hygiene was 97 according to website, would Covid have given everyone bonus ranks to explain the rise ?

From this, it looks like the lowest raw selection rank for hygiene last year was 89 and the median was 96 (5GPA so sounds about right? since 18/25 are NSL) whereas the adjusted selection ranks were 97+ (99 median). So it looks like Griffith were already quite generous with bonuses for hygiene. Maybe this year there were more bonus points?

We don't know the UAC Jan selection rank for last year's dental hygiene since that was redacted on the document (less that 5 offers that round). But it could well and truly be the case that that round may have required a 99.95 (people wanting dent with 6+ GPA's getting 98+ bonus) with the threshold dropping to 97 (with bonus) in later offer rounds as prospective dental students decline the hygiene spot for dentistry.

I'm not A1 so idk how true my admissions speculation is 🤷‍♂️

So I just found out that my study is being assessed as an associate degree instead of a bachelor despite them all being the exact same subjects and criteria. This puts my Rank down to 98.75 instead of the 99.75. My GPA is 6.86 as a rural. I'm worried that despite me doing all the work and subjects I was told to do that I won't get in as its an associate degree? This waiting game is hard!

Hi while it depends on the rural cohort strength I believe a 98.75 is most likely insufficient because the rural allocation is a few seats only . Whilst the cut-off is most likely lower than the general category I would assume 99 or above is necessary because that's what a 6.5 GPA would equate to. Perhaps it is worth enquiring why Griffith is assessing it as an associate degree to the admission team.

But the actual GPA of my full time year is 6.86 so maybe they take that into consideration? Upsetting but thank you for your feedback

Your GPA will be scaled to an ATAR equivalent so you can be compared with the school leaver applicants. So unfortunately it looks like they’ll use the 98.75 value if that information is accurate.

Hey everyone, does anyone know how many domestic spots are allocated for dent each year at Griffith? Just wanting to know my chances with offers coming out this week
