Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Does Griffith do top-up offers for dentistry? I won't have 1FTE worth of results until mid-January as I am sitting a deferred exam (currently on a 7GPA but for 7 completed units) so I'm sort of relying on maybe a top-up or second round offer for a chance of getting in. I have seen some top-ups on MSO for Griffith/USC med but haven't seen any for dentistry so I'm unsure. Any help is much appreciated :))

I was in a similar situation to you, where I had a PO on my academic transcript, because a practical assessment could not be completed due to COVID. This essentially meant that I had 7/8 completed units. I contacted Griffith Medical Admissions and they said they need a grade present for GPA calculation.
Fortunately, I was able to complete the assessment and now I have a 1FTE worth of study.
I would try contacting your university and tell them if they have an earlier date available for the supplementary assessment, explain your position to them, because Griffith did tell me to have all my grades finalised before the 26th of December. From my experience and talk with Griffith admissions they don’t offer top up offers or conditional offers. :/

Sadly my university's supplementary exam period is non-negotiable. Because of COVID they're doing it in early January rather than mid-December like usual so I guess that's a bit unfortunate for me :( Will still keep my eye out for possible top ups but I won't get my hopes up too much :/

Yeah, I heard a similar story from someone else a while ago. I think Griffith wants applicants to have their grades finalised before a certain date.

Hey all,

So I have been working as a physio for the last 5 years and am looking for a career change. I've applied for Griffith Dentistry and have First Class Honours and a Masters in Orofacial Pain. I called QTAC who said my honours degree will give me an ATAR equivalent of 99.95. However, she also said Griffith have a secondary criteria to split up applicants on the same score. Does anyone know what this is? When I emailed Griffith, they did say that those with 1 year of uni study need a higher GPA than those with a finished degree, so do you think that it will be based on the type of degree such as PhD, masters, honours, bachelors and then incomplete?

I just don't want to get my hopes up of getting in, especially if theres a high number of applicants with GPA of 7 applying!

Cheers!

Awesome - thanks for this! Is this official or an informed guess?

The part about non-standards is correct as far as I’ve observed in the last 6 years of admissions. The school-leaver bit is an educated guess and would be consistent with the fact that higher level of qualification = higher ranked, but we will have to wait and see to be sure.

Answering my own question in case it helps anyone in the future :))) I am from New Zealand and my exam results won't be available in time for the mid-January offer round.
Late(ish) results are okay but no places are held for second round offers so the late offers are reliant on declines and top-ups (if I've interpreted this correctly).

Hey guys, I would appreciate some advice on my competitiveness. I have a GPA of 6.875. However, because of COVID, I am afraid the cutoff this year would be 7. Do you guys reckon I have a decent shot?
Thank you!!

Hi, in previous years a 6.875 would have met the cut-off but no one will know what the cut-off is for this year until it is released by the university. Even if there are a lot of 7 GPA applicants it is possible that they have applied to other dental/medical schools and would choose them instead if they got an offer bringing the cut-off down. Given online study, it's possible that a 7 is required and personally I think 7 will be the cut-off but that is just a guess.

Hi, does uni look at the high school results if they have done university studies or primary university results. I noticed the uni looks at GPA not ATAR. Thanks!

Which university are you talking about? For Griffith dent, they only look at your GPA if you have done > 1FTE.

Just a heads up - Griffith Uni have now introduced UCAT + mini interview with prev entry rank 99 - Full Fee paying postgrad still applies - doubt this will go down well for Griffith.

Application information for 2022

From 2022, admission to the Bachelor of Dental Health Science will be determined by the following three essential components:

  1. Performance in the Universities Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) - subject to final approval
  2. Performance in the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
  3. Academic attainment
Selection for entry to the Bachelor of Dental Health Science is a sequential three-stage process. Applicants will be selected for the interview based on their UCAT score. Minimum thresholds for each component must be met. The three weighted components will be combined and candidates will be ranked on their overall score
above don't appear on international students section, does it mean no UCAT or interviews for ( i e no change) international students

So UAC have uploaded the cut offs for the January round and for dental hygiene, technology and prosthetics/technology the ATAR is 99.95. So it seems for dental science once released by QTAC it’s going to be very high!

Last year UAC had 99.80 cutoff for Griffith GC Med, then QTAC came out with 99.50. Same thing could be happening this year.
