Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Hi does anyone know how border crossing and quarantining for people from NSW to QLD will work? Would we have to go to QLD 14 days before orientation to quarantine?

This is 100% something you need to look at official channels for. It’s subject to change frequently and only the relevant government pages will be reliable (or as reliable as possible).

Hey guys, I have some questions!

1) When people say that they have received an offer for dentistry to Griffth's University, do they mean they have received a Bachelor of Dental Science offer?

2) What is the prerequisite to get into Masters of Dentistry from Bachelor of Dental Science? Is there a minimum grade requirement? Etc?

3) If there is a minimum grade requirement, is it guaranteed entry into Masters of Dentistry from Bachelor of Dental science if the grade requirements are me?

4) How do they determine how many "Dental chairs" are offered for Masters of Dentistry each year?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all, congratulations to all those got an offer. Well deserved! especially through such a difficult year.

Do we have to maintain a particular GPA during our years in Bachelor of Dental Health Sciences to gain entry into Master of Dentistry?

Hi I recommend doing some research prior to asking questions but to answer your questions . Students receive a Bachelor of Dental Health Science with a Master of Dentistry which is what students mean by saying they got an offer for Dentistry at Griffith. From memory the pre-requisite is that you successfully complete the Bachelor of Dental Health Science which guarantees you a spot in the Master of Dentistry. The determination of dental chairs is most likely based on the number of spots for the Bachelor of Dental Health Science course which is 38 I think.

Please contact Griffith though for full clarification as I'm not a Griffith student .

Timetable overlap is fine assuming one of them is a lecture. If it’s a lab or exam clashing with a lab or exam, you’ll want to change it.

Dr Kenway will record the lectures and tutorials that are delivered online via Collaborate Ultra which you can catch up in your own time if necessary.

Hi Eleanor,

Just to further add to this.
1) It means they received an offer to the Bachelor of Dental Health Science at Griffith University.
2) You must pass/graduate from the Bachelor of Dental Health Science and then you will be granted entry automatically into the Master of Dentistry course. Without the Masters degree you will be unable to register as a dentist.
3) There is no minimum grade requirement, just pass and complete/get credit for all of the courses and graduate from the Bachelors.
4) Everyone who graduates from Bachelor of Dental Health Science is granted a place in Master of Dentistry at Griffith. Each cohort is roughly 100 students per year.

Re: credit transfer request - they are asking for course outline / program guide as a supporting document. Is screenshot of course description on your prev university enough? or are they wanting something else

Hi, did any of you guys received a call from Griffith uni? What did they say? I missed my call 🥺 and now i can’t get in touch with Griffith! Was call important? Thanks!

In relation to credit transfers, I see it says 'Note: Students must successfully complete all Level 1 courses before enrolling in Level 2 courses.'
Just to be clear, this means that you can't pick 2nd year subjects in 1st year. Correct?

In the past they used to allow it but not anymore.

Hi exdontia, thanks for the reply.
Do you mean Griffith takes about 100 students for dental health science each year? compared to someone mentioned above, the number of students is 30-40, you said 100 students is a lot for dentistry, right?
Another question, do you get students transferred out in year 4 compared to year 1? (due to failure or withdrawal) I am just curious since I heard lots of ppl cannot graduate their dentistry degree.

Not a Griffith student but I'd imagine that a few students would finish year 3 (and graduate BDHSc) and move onto postgrad med instead of doing the last 2 years of dent for fee reasons or otherwise.

You can pick 2nd year units, given you have room to pick up the extra units (have received credit for prior learning).

it depends on

it depends which courses you have credits for... I had credits for the three MSC courses, so I was able to pick up biochemistry or microbiology from the year 2 courses.

No offer for me today (7GPA with 1FTE) albeit with late results updated on the 12th after the offer round was processing. I'm assuming they went with my ATAR (99.0) which is probably not enough for dent.

Is it worth enquiring with admissions? Or should I just chill and wait for second round and see what happens from there.
Hey did you receive an offer today?
