so the email telling us the waitlist positions was for after the second round offers came out?

I'm so lost at what your question is lol ... If the email they sent you was before Jan 9, I'll assume it was before second round offers release.

Second round offers came out at like 1am today and the Uni can be contacted to ask about your waitlist position if it has changed again.

lol sorry i just read my question, and yea it doesn't make any sense. but you pretty much answered it thanks!

I’ve been told I’m in the top 10 places on the dentistry waiting list, but does this mean the original top 10 after first round offers, or top 10 now that second round offers have been sent out? Going to assume the latter considering surely more than 10 people would’ve declined dentistry offers out of all who received them in the first round offers

Keep in mind that the non-medicine programmes routinely over-offer - they make more offers than they have places, anticipating that a bunch of candidates will turn down the offer in favour of a more coveted programme. (I understand this backfired with dentistry somewhere around 2017, when too many people accepted their offers, and they ended up providing a financial incentive for people to defer by a year, or something?)

Anyone have a clue (from previous years) how much movement there generally is on the waitlist for med after 2nd round offers are out?
This is actually really hard to predict, because it gets down to the small numbers driven by individual decisions, rather than any predictable trend. I haven’t gone through the past threads to analyse this, but I suspect it wouldn’t be all that predictive because random chance takes over at this point.

Yes, and if you get offered med then you need to email in to cancel your acceptance of dent.

Do be sure that you WANT to do dentistry before you accept it, though. Don't go into an entirely different career you won't love because you didn't get into med
Hi Verdigris! I am in the process of trying to cancel my acceptance of dent. I was just wondering who you emailed to do this. Was it AskOtago?
Thank you!!
