Myself I would choose Monash over UQ for its 5-yr course vs 7 years.
Also the UQ med cohort is huge, around 400 vs Monash 200-250.
Monash cohorts are actually a lot higher than that 242 CSP + ERC + BM. That's not counting International students and other forms of full fee paying students. Also there are around 75 or so CSP places Graduates who are doing the same degree. So I'd say around 340 at least according to a Monash 4th year. It's not that small actually

Does the UMAT Requirement decrease for second round interviews? or is it for people who have met the UMAT cutoff but didn't meet the predicted ATAR?

Usually no change in cutoffs. Second round interviews are mainly for interstate, plus the in-state whose scores are borderline thus 2nd round to use their actual scores. The scores here are either ATAR/GPA alone or calculated in combination with UMAT like at Unsw.

Occasionally there's a decrease in cutoff when too many decline/fail to attend thus not enough applicants have been interviewed. That happened last year at Monash.

Just emailed Newcastle and got this reply:

Hi, We haven't received any indication that invitation have been sent to interstate applicants but have been advised that they should be early this week.
Thanks for this info, who did you email btw. I emailed them and they replied with this, Is this person ignorant of the situation or something?

Thank you for your enquiry.
Applicants for the 2017 Bachelor of Medicine - JMP who scored the required level in UMAT will receive an invitation by the end of October 2016 to attend a day of Multiple Skills Assessment (interview) and Personal Qualities Assessment. Only those applicants who are required forinterview will be contacted.
Applicants who have not been contacted by the end of October should assume that they have not been successful. For further enquiries regarding interview offers please email [email protected]
I hope this information has helped to answer your enquiry. Should you have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact us via return email, or by phone on 02 4921 5000.
For all general enquiries, AskUON is a great place to start!
Kind Regards,

Some members of Admissions teams are like that, they are "generalists" not specific to med selection so just give you a standard answer from their FAQs that you can find yourself. It depends on luck which member your enquiry email got assigned to.

I actually used the 'chat function' instead of email so didn't get the generic FAQ response.

His point still stands. Doesn't matter if it was the Chat function or email, whoever you got assigned to may be a generalist. In fact because it was the chat function it’s more likely you got assigned to a person who doesn’t have the authority to give specifics. People who can provide that information most likely don’t have the time to answer live chats

I'm talking about western sydney in particular, will the umat cutoff for second round decrease? i know that the adelaide umat cutoff for second round interviews is significantly lower. Also have you by any chance attended JMP interviews or have any tips/ advice?

Adel is uniquely different to the other unis on interview offer rounds. First round it gives bonuses to SA applicants so inflates the Umat cutoff point. Second round, not only no bonus but uses a different formula (66%Atar 33%Umat instead of 100%Umat) so high ATARs can get an interview with significantly lower Umat.

UWS has two interview rounds but I believe there isn't a 2nd offer round in January, both rounds are notified around now so must be based on the same cutoff. One possible way it can decrease is if a number of applicants decline their offers (or if req'd to book intv time & they haven't done by the time bookings close) then these go to next in line slightly below cutoff. I guess why UWS says offers will be released progressively till mid-Nov.

Sorry I didn't go to JMP interview to offer tips. I checked with Mana this is the group that provides the PQA process to JMP, maybe you can glean some info from its website > Personal Qualities Assessment

People who haven't received anything from UWS can assume the chances are very slim. Good luck with the rest of the applications.

lol, if only they don't weigh s3 down so much. I think it's best to focus on ATAR instead of interviews right now (about to get hit by IB exams tomorrow. rip me)
