If I got an offer in UNSW, How can I know whether I am qualified for UWS or UoN? Do they inform me?

No they do not inform you. I'll give a direct anecdote: last year I put UQ at pref 1 and Griffith pref 2, got a place at UQ, my ATAR 99.80 would have got Griffith as well but no words from either QTAC or Griffith. Logical reason for this is you've got your first (or higher) pref you shouldn't need to still be concerned about the lower prefs' outcome.

I could have accepted the UQ offer then moved Griffith to higher pref to get it considered for 2nd round place offer, but I didn't (why I count Griffith as half an offer haha).

This is what it looks like for me at the moment.
UMAT 98% 65, 63, 71
Rural: No
State: Victoria
School Leaver: Yes
Interviews: JMP, Adelaide & WSU/UWS

While I definitely agree with a lot of this; just putting a shout-out out there to non-standard applicants who didn't apply as school leavers (for whatever reason) and so haven't actually 'failed' to get in previously! We aren't all failed school leaver applicants (and there's nothing wrong with the applicants who are either, just making that also clear...! Argh, I'ma stop digging here!!).

Yes, the cohort you are referring to is a small but significant proportion of applicants (which I have to say in my personal experience is generally more intelligent than those who attempted to get in after year 12 and failed). This group also correlates with those who did a degree that isn't med science.

Still, the 100m race analogy which I refer to in my post linked to in my signature stands - the second race is easier even though it can contain some people who never raced in the first - and also that these people are more likely to win the second race than those who lost the first race.

BTW, how does JMP select students? Is it solely based on the final interview/PQA score as long as the UMAT and ATAR thresholds have been reached? Thanks

Not sure if anyone will be interested now but this is an email response from Tracey Bristow UoN regarding me not getting an interview:

I have checked your application:

·You satisfied the initial screen of meeting a threshold requirement of 50 in each section of UMAT

·Applicants who satisfy this requirement are ranked on their score in UMAT Section 1

·The cut-off this year was 60 (this varies each year based on cohort performance)

·Unfortunately your UMAT Section 1 score was below the requirement of 60

Please be reassured that not getting an interview does not constitute “failing” – we receive over 3200 applications and only interview 700 for an intake of 50. If you do not gain entry to another medical program in 2017 and this is what you are aiming to do I would encourage you to reapply. A large number of candidates reapply some a number of times. Each application is a clean slate and we do not look at prior years.

- JMP: apparently 0/0/100
- Flinders: 90/10/0

- UNSW & Monash: 33/33/33
- Adel, UWA, Curtin: 40/20/40

Thanks for the info. Does Griffiths do med?

LOL Mana stop slaying me left and right. That was a sarcastic comment, because we don't know how UTAS even looks at those things.

Ah right. The sarcasm doesn't translate well online.

That said, statements I made in that post still stand.

50!? UoN only takes 50? My gosh, chance are so slim then

What is the difference between first and second round interivew of JMP?

This is a typo right? Website says 170 places are available in the program for both campuses. I'm pretty sure UoN takes like 120 and UNE takes like 50?
Interesting. This may be in reference to non-standard applicant places, however.

This is to wait & see until a place is offered in home state uni for an interstate applicant and also to save travel/accommodation costs to atend interview at UoN/UNE.

What is the difference between first and second round interivew of JMP?

The timing. In terms of fairness etc, it's the same. The main reason for a second round in this case would be to allow those who have received a med offer that they would prefer to remove themselves from the pool and save themselves the travel costs as well as save the university the cost of interviewing that one person.
