Interview offers & dates 2016-17

The timing. In terms of fairness etc, it's the same. The main reason for a second round in this case would be to allow those who have received a med offer that they would prefer to remove themselves from the pool and save themselves the travel costs as well as save the university the cost of interviewing that one person.
But many interstate student got the first round interview offer of JMP?

This is to wait & see until a place is offered in home state uni for an interstate applicant and also to save travel/accommodation costs to atend interview at UoN/UNE.

That's what the unis often say (and I agree) but begs the question why JMP gets QLD applicants to do first round interviews. They will need to travel before knowing home-state results.

If there is a clash betweent unis interview date, what is the successful rate to ask for a change and what is the best reason? Tell them the truth?

My suspicion is that this is due to the lack of undergraduate medicine in Brisbane whereas every other capital city (other than Canberra... which would have got first round JMP offers anyway) has at least one undergrad program. Note the distinction here between provisional and undergraduate medicine.

Yes. This happens every year and one of the universities will reschedule. I have never heard of a scenario where both universities refuse to reschedule.

First round interviews are over 8-10 days so they will say get your bookings right to avoid clashing.
Second rounds are all one day and the unis will have picked a date to not clash. Last year Unsw was 22-Jan, Monash 27th, UWS 28th, JMP 29th. No doubt similarly this year.

Received Interview from JMP today at 10:00 a.m. for Stage 2 - on Monday, 23Jan2017.

UMAT - 81% - S1 60, S2 55, S3 56 (Total - 171)
Rural: No
State: Victoria
School Leaver: Yes
Well done!! I'm extremely jealous (and a little sad cos my overall was higher than this :( ) but it's great you got an interview!

Do you think it could be something to do with non standard non rural applicants? I don't know, I was a bit confused by that part

This is probably due to the fact that universities are actually allowed to not offer the *exact* number of places they are allocated. Generally they are allowed to offer within 5% of their actual allocated number. For example, a school with 100 government funded spots (CSP and BMP) is allowed to offer anywhere between 95 to 105 actual spots, just that if you go down the rank list you often find multiple people with the exact same rank and thus instead of being able to only offer one spot you have to offer several for fairness.

(source: was told this by a certain admissions officer in person at a university offering medicine where I was once involved quite heavily with admissions)

JMP interview offer
UMAT - 95%ile (63/59/66)
Rural- no
State - SA
School leaver - yes

What a pleasant surprise! Swear someone said that all JMP offers were sent out yesterday.

I think I've discovered the reason why. Most NSW applicants are from Sydney region will have to travel to Newcastle/Armidale before knowing home-state results so they make QLD applicants do too, to avoid discriminating against their own haha.

UNE is actually (slightly) closer to Brisbane than Sydney, maybe that's an additional reason?

What do you mean? As in where they got 50 from?

Not sure, doesn't look right as I can see. I don't think they're reducing admission sizes with the MD coming next year either.

Any views on what the likely UNSW UMAT and ATAR cutoffs will be?

See A1.'s post in my signature (the first link). Then add about 5-6 raw UMAT points to those and you'll have a reasonable estimation.
