Still unfair for the overseas domestics. No hope to get any privelege or bonus from any state.A guy has received Unsw offer for 3rd round/interstate interview and wrote to me pointing out how unfair it is that he could be subjected to a higher cutoff than 1st/2nd rounds and the offer could be withdrawn. I replied as below to explain he misunderstood, hope this helps some of you too.
=============
Although Unsw uses the z-score method let's imagine they standardise ATAR/UMAT/Interview scores to scale of 100 each to illustrate, and 1st/2nd round interview cutoff is [A+U]= 140.
After their interviews, place offer cutoff turns out to be [A+U+I]= 250
The place winner with lowest A+U has [80+80+93]
That does NOT make interstate round intv cutoff as that person's A+U [80+80]= 160
The new intv cutoff would be 150 (being place cutoff 250 minus max intv 100)
On surface it looks like intv cutoff is unfairly raised from 140 to 150, but in reality if you have [A+U]= 145 Unsw do not want you to spend $1000 travel to do an interview knowing you cannot reach place cutoff 250.
The Unsw offer email does NOT say the new cutoff is from the lowest successful [A+U], it is derived from the place cutoff minus max interview.
An overseas domestic is not eligible for the first round in all the different states. Usually the second round for interstates is justified by waiting the main offer from their home state. No home state considered for the overseas domestics why they should wait for the second round?
can anyone provide insight into melbourne university's guaranteed entry scheme for atar of 99+. Whats the success rate of their MMI pass and the 75 percent weighted mark in the course to get into their MD program?
Sorry not answering your questions just checking if you are aware this pathway only leads to an FFP at $65k/year for 4 years?
Total close to $300k after 7 years, might as well pay a little extra to do Bond in 5 years.
I am not sure of this possibility.UNSW is known to have offered main round interviews to interstate applicants who are not waiting for a home-state offer.
But you need to make a request, they don't know of your wish otherwise.
Ive now got interviews for all medical schools I applied for (Monash, UNSW, WSU, JMP, JCU, UAdel, UWA and Curtin.)
ATAR: 98.7 UMAT: 98th percentile (65 63 71)
Standard and non-rural with a lot of special considerations in every state except WA
Hey I just got an offer from Curtin but the interview is 7-8 Jan which is before I know if I'll get other unis. I would prefer to go to UQ or UNSW
I ended up getting 99.55 atar and 99%tile umat so I should get UQ right?
Just wondering what is the likelihood of someone with a 99.75 ATAR and 98% umat getting into UQ??
Judging from ATAR and UMAT of students who received interview invitations from Monash this year, what kind of score do you think would be competitive for Monash?
I should have been more specific by asking 'do you think students with 99+ ATAR and 90+ UMAT would have a decent chance to get in this year if their interview performances are average?'The scores posted on MSO are only a small sample we can't really rely on for any estimation.
Apart from that I don't know what is commonly accepted as being competitive: 100% chance, or 75% chance, or 50/50?
