i always thought there'd be places reserved for rural , Indigenous and the BioMed pathway applicants - and that the remaining would be preferred NSW/QLD applicants - leaving interstate applicants with a small number of spots available hhehe - thanks for clearing that up!

Wait there wasn’t anything we had to reply to right? On my email they just said to let them know if I still wanted an interview after the main offer round in my state

I think they meant that the date invites would be sent would be in the end of this week or early next week not over the whole time period
 
Without breaking the NDA, does anyone who did an online interview in 2020 know if they tell you how many questions there will be in each station?
 
Is Clinical Years year 4&5? Or is it 3-5? Also, can you get the same hospital for all of the clinical years or are you expected to change each year?

Hi apologies I have 1 more question.
WSU/CSU have year 3-5 as mainly clinical related ie hospital.
What do you do in year 3 at JMP? Is it mainly hospital?

Also, is year 5 "pre-intern"? (it says this on their website)

Year 3 is half clinical (surg, med, gp placements) and half theory (classes and labs). Year 4 and 5 are purely clinical and u can stay at the same hospital as long as its not a rural hospital (u can only spend 1 year at a rural hospital between 4 and 5th year).

Obviously if you get UON you are at either JHH or Newcastles other hospital located in newcastle for years 1-3 right? (Apart from the central coast but that isn't me)
 
I am just older so trying to understand living situations and moving less compared to other unis

If you get UON Callaghan, you will only be at Newcastle Callaghan for Years 1-2. You will then preference your clinical schools for years 3-5 in year 2, meaning you are not guaranteed JHH or other hospitals near Newcastle.

If you get UON Central Coast, you will be at Gosford Hospital/Wyong Hospital (Central Coast Clinical School) for Years 1-3. This is the same for UNE, you will be at Armidale for Years 1-3. You will preference your clinical schools for years 4-5 in year 2.

Unfortunately I don't know why JHH would be undersubscribed. I would assume it is because JHH has a lot more positions available for students and is where the bulk of the JMP medical students will be placed at (same with Armidale). It is also for this reason that teaching wise, the doctors would take on more students per placement (from what I've heard).

If you look at some of the more rural hospitals (other than Armidale) like Maitland or Taree, they have limited positions available (Taree only takes on around 12ish students from what I heard), and their clinical teaching is more favourable due to more 1-1, doctor-student placement ratios.

Students that I've spoke to in older years seem to preference at least 1 rural rotation like Maitland/Taree, for the experience, and do not always prefer JHH for all years 3-5. One student I spoke to had preferred Taree, Gosford and JHH and ended up receiving JHH for all 3 years!

Overseas, yes. JMP has a 'clinical elective' period (community placement - 6 weeks) in year 3 and year 5. This is a chance for you to organise your own placement anywhere you want (whether that is at another university's teaching hospital, or overseas). You can choose to go with a placement company or just organise your own via emailing universities/hospitals.

JMP also has an overseas exchange program "Stockholm Exchange" in third year to Karolinska institute in Sweden, however places are only limited to 1-2 students from JMP. You will spend the entire third year there.

In terms of RFDS, I have not heard of any opportunities or placements with them. (As much as I would like to take up such opportunities if they present themselves)
 
I wonder if the Uni could contact RFDS and get a placement with them! Would be so cool!
Sweden is cool!!! I expect extremely competitive.
 
I believe the Karolinska institute exchange was for the old Bmed program, and is not currently available for the current MD program. This is due to issues with lining up units between the unis but they are working on resolving this issue. The program was quite competitive when it ran, and was based on academic grades.

Usually you can go on electives for 5 weeks in 3rd year and another 5 week period in 5th year, but this has not happened for the past 2 years nor will it happen next year due to COVID. Hopefully in the future, this will resume. Most students go with worktheworld for the 3rd year electives, but you can also organise your own placements.

Like Wolfles mentioned, JHH is typically undersubscribed due to the amount of positions available. Rural clinical schools like Tamworth, Taree, and Armidale are much smaller so not as many positions are available.

Hi guys!! Was just wondering for the PQA test that needs to be done, do they send out a link for it on your interview day? Or is there another way we need to be able to access it?

This ^. "For admission 2022, Stage 2 of the Applicant Assessment will consist of the Multiple Skills Assessment (MSA) only" - taken from the interview invite email :)
