Med and Dent - 2019 Entry (Offers)

How likely am I to get a 2nd/3rd/etc. round offer at Adelaide or Flinders with an ATAR of 99.70 and UMAT score in the 96th percentile (62, 58, 70)? I felt the interview went quite well, but it's hard to tell.

Good chance for Adelaide in the second round. Unlikely for Flinders as 99.85s have missed out in the past.

Course Type: med
Offer Received: yes
University: UQ
UMAT: 99% (201- 78,58,64)
ATAR or GPA: 99.50 (from NSW)
Special Considerations: 4u math, latin possible bonus points?
Offer Type: CSP
Other Information: accepted, but will decline later if i receive an offer from monash which i will interview for 23/2

Rejected from unsw, wsu, uon

Also, just checking that it will be possible for me to commence studies at UQ, but sit the UCAT this year and have the chance to apply for spots at UNSW and WSU again?

Yes, absolutely. And JMP and JCU. Did you apply to UTAS? You probably should have received a direct entry offer from them.

Thanks!
Unfortunately I did not, because I read that I needed 60 in all sections so thought it wasn't worth the fee to apply.

There was no fee to apply, UTAS applications are always free. But yeah, re: 60+. That has been in place for years, but the rule book was clearly thrown out this year!

Best of luck for Monash.

I thought this as well, but I saw that WSU seems to force all those that are enrolled in a current MBBS/MD program to go down the Transfer path rather than the typical non-standard entry of applicants at uni but not studying medicine; MD Transfer Request | Western Sydney University. In the document it specifically states that it is highly unlikely for those applying from interstate to their home state to be accepted.

The difficulty with this route is it seems to require real extenuating reasons and permission of the Deans as with all other Medical school transfers. Not sure about UNSW, but thought it was best to mention this.

Do you know much more about this LMG, or is this just the case with WSU?

UNSW specifically excludes anyone already in a MBBS/MD course from applying as non-standard. However doing the provisional undergrad degree at UQ is not considered as MBBS/MD; you are eligible to apply as non-standard to both WSU and UNSW.

What this is referring to is the likelihood of someone already studying medicine being allowed to transfer into the WSU program (or any program) at the same year they're currently studying. This very, very rarely happens (anywhere) and, as you mentioned, typically requires extenuating circumstances. Occasionally, people who get Bond Medicine FFP offers (for example) will accept that offer and perhaps even complete first year, but will apply to non-standard Universities (with the exception of UNSW who don't allow it) again so they can compete for a CSP elsewhere (thus saving themselves $$ in the long run). In these instances, the student does this knowing they will have to start from 'scratch' at the non-standard uni (ie. from first year), they are not applying to transfer into second year. JMP and WSU both allow students to do this (start from scratch even if they've started Med elsewhere).

As A1 mentioned, neither of the above scenarios is applicable to someone in the provisional years of a provisional Med degree.

Hi Brian, congrats. I was really hoping for a Curtin Offer but my ATAR is 98.8. If you can't get Curtin with those amazing scores, I have no hope!

I know of a friend who got first round Curtin with a 96.2 and a UMAT in the 90s (not exactly sure of their score). I am also aware of people who got in last year with high 98 atar and a 98 UMAT. Both were non-rural and from WA. Based off these scores I think the interview plays a big role! Best of luck to you

Hey guys,

If u guys have an offer to go to uq but are planning to go to another uni, I would appreciate it if you could reject the offer and take it off your preference list. This is because I’ve recieved confirmation that they make limited offers on the 25th jan round.

Not sure it works that way. However I am surprised you didn't receive a JMP given your great marks and UMAT!

I’m pretty sure I didn’t do too well in one or two stations of the the interview, but uq has stated that if people reject, they will do limited top up offers, and I’m one UMAT point off the cutoff.

First round uq offers lapse 22nd jan if they aren’t accepted anyway, so whether or not someone actively rejects their offer or just leaves it shouldn’t impact the number of second round offers available :)
