BethMark25 legend! Thank you so much for the this helpful response. My goal in life is actually to work with and help the aboriginal people in my home town. I have always wanted to work with disadvantaged people. All I have to do now is think about what you said and my responses should be good! Again, thank you very much.

The interviewers can really tell when you have a genuine interest in something, and when you've really thought about it. So if a question about that comes up you'll be set.

Good luck! And also that's a great career choice for the future, we need more doctors with a passion for Indigenous health.

Does anyone know when Curtin medicine tells us who is successful for an interview???

Curtin interview invites come out mid-late Nov for WA applicants, early-mid January for interstate.
(This is because WACE exams are quite late relative to other states and Curtin/UWA don't want these invites to affect students during their exam time).

Hello, so sorry if this has been asked in a different way, but I just wanted some clarification.
I am just about to finish my 2nd undergraduate year at uni, and have been successful in gaining an interview for WSU.

For GPA calculations, should I be using the unweighted GPA method as per the UAC website? (How your tertiary qualifications are graded and assessed - UAC)
orrrr
does the university use a weighted GPA? (The WSU MD admissions site doesn't specify a method)

I don't believe WSU use a weighted GPA for Medicine admissions.

Can confirm, the whole “weighted” and “unweighted” GPA situation is unique to graduate entry schools as far as I’m aware.

A1 might know this, with relation to probability of offers to interview jcu was listed as 1:4. Is this for non school leavers? Anyone know how many non school students eg uni grads are offered interviews and of those offered spots?

I don’t believe the data is publicly released by JCU, but presumably they’d maintain the same ratio for non-standards as school-leavers. I’d expect them to offer anywhere from ~60-80 interviews for 10-20 course places.

On the Entry requirements table it says that offers for UTas are based on a 95+ Atar hurdle then ranked on UMAT overall, but on the UTas website it says that they rank by both UMAT and ATAR? Which one do they actually use to decide their offers?

The process is a bit different depending if you’re rural or not. If you’re rural, ATAR is a hurdle requirement. If you’re non-rural and interstate, it’s part of the ranking (hence required ATAR being really quite high).

ETA: disclaimer, the entry process for UTAS is slightly different for this coming year. We know the changes for non-standards, and while we’ve not heard any for school leavers, we obviously can’t guarantee that.

ETA2: Aus Med and Dent Place Offers 2018 - Collated Data

Last year, 99th%ile, ATAR 99.45 wasn’t enough, if that’s any indication for this year...

What do you think the required ATAR for 100th%ile might look like?

I honestly have no idea, sorry. I think there are three interstate, non-rural students in my class this year, so it’s a very tiny portion of the cohort.

hey guys,

looked around the forum and havent really found anything about this. my question is, can you receive a gpa from an online course, such as a bach of social science at edith cowan uni in wa? can this then be used to enter a medical degree as a non standard, with completion of ucat?

thank you!

If the degree is considered at AQF level 7 - a Bachelor degree - then yes, I think that would be fine. I haven't checked the specific degree in question, though, so you would want to confirm that yourself.

Just wondering, does the extent of your rurality matter at unsw. I.e is someone who lived in a rural area for 6 years ranked higher than someone for 5 years. Or is it purely the rrmma score that matters after the 5 years are met.
Cheers
Hey Josh, sorry this got missed!
As explained by this post (and also you answered the question yourself in your PM!), yes, the extent of your rurality DOES matter, but I highly doubt 6 years vs 5 years is going to be taken into account. It's more of a case acknowledging the experiences of someone who lived in a tiny outback town with one school for 10+ years is going to be different from someone living in a larger regional town for 5 years.

hey guys,
I applied for curtin medicine but I didnt submit a predicted ATAR form because my school couldn't provide it. Would I still be considered for 2nd round offers?

Key dates for applicants - Health Sciences | Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia

I just had a look at the above but it’s a bit weird because it says first round place offers come out before first round place offer preferencing closes.

Regardless, I would expect you to be considered for second round interview invites, yes. It says when these are held but not when the invites are issued.
