Quick Questions Thread #2: 2018-2019

I think this confirms the notion that UMAT S1 is used as a tiebreaker as I would interpret the above as something like this (numbers are examples only).

Interview Score/UMAT S1 Score
100/83
100/76
100/74
100/69
etc down to a possible low of 100/58

99/89
99/83
99/71
99/64
etc down to a possible low of 99/58

and so on for all interview scores.

JMP would then offer down that list. So it could be possible to miss out by having an interview score of, say 83, when the cut off is 84, OR by having an interview score of 84 and a UMAT S1 score of 62 when the interview+S1 cut off was 84/65.

Does that make sense at all??

Also, just speculation, but my interpretation of what JMP have provided to you.
Thanks LMG this makes alot of sense! and is very helpful!

It doesn’t appear that they come out via a UAC round at all. IIRC, they come out via direct phone call from JMP and for the last couple of years it’s happened in early Feb.

Though things may happen differently this year.

Oh, okay. That actually clears up a fair bit. Thanks for the heads up :)

I'm on the "academic reserve list" for University of Western Australia (UWA). So I'm anxiously waiting to see if I get an interview invite.

If I do get a UWA invite, I'm in a bit of a problem.

As I'm also going to the JMP interview on the 23rd Jan (Wed) and UWA interviews are on the 24th Jan (Thur), the flight and the timings are going to be very tight.

1) To those that have a UWA interview on the 24th Jan (Thur),
a) What time is it?
b) Where's the location?
c) Do you get to pick other times? If so, what other times are still available?

2) Anyone else in the same boat with me?

Thanks in advance!

Hi same here we will know on 18th about 24th timing etc.

Yes going from New Castle to Perth is very tight

Does anyone know if qtac actually sends out emails confirming the offer? Because I have to send confirmation to the college I’m applying for and a screenshot seems less ‘official’ haha

They send emails and text messages usually.

Hi, can anyone tell me how Flinders Uni is, is it a decent med course - (it is directly into med, no interview or maintaining of grades to progress into doctor of med so there's that advantage)? Is it comparable to the University of Sydney, will a qualification from USyd be worth a little more in the job market? And how is Griffith? Is there a reliable website or source who could rank or compare the standings of these unis for me?

Can I get interview/assessment tips for USyd in both Med and Dent please? Or someone I can contact to help me prep for that?
Thank you

After you graduate from medicine, your university will not be looked at. So it doesn’t matter where you graduate from. Is there a state you would prefer to intern in?

Also keep in mind that Flinders does have he requirement of maintaining a 5.0 GPA for the first 2 years (not too difficult).

Quick question :
What is Monash's cut off (2019) for offering a spot in medicine.
Cut off for UMAT and ATAR
For both CSP and rural.
No special consideration.

I don't really as I'm new to Aus, I thought most unis have a decent range of places you can go for interns, Flinders also has 12 weeks abroad I believe. What are the major differences, in this case, I should consider? University of Sydney also has a requirement to progress into md degree, I would presume thats more difficult to maintain than Flinders?

Guide to First Year Clinical Science / MD at Flinders Uni

Please help, Urgent

my child is away on holiday and I have to ask on his behalf.
My Child received an offer from an interstate Medical school
He has already enrolled at UNSW as he got guaranteed entry in a science subject in Dec.
He is not sure to go for the medical school or stays with UNSW.

Can he take a gap year with the medical school while starting the degree course in UNSW?
Is it allowed?
He kind of want to try the degree in UNSW and see whether he really like it. Teenagers are not very sure of their real interests.
Thank you for your advises.

I've accepted a UTas offer, but now that I've received and accepted my unsw offer, what do I do with the UTas one?

You need to withdraw. You would do this via eStudent, but if you’re not sure, I’d recommend calling Admissions and they’ll step you through it.
