I assumed they would put a similar amount of easy and hard questions, and then scaled them so that capping wouldn't really be an issue

Before the UMAT is actually administered, ACER has no idea of the "difficulty" of a question, as "difficulty" is measured by how many people get it right on the actual UMAT. Scaling makes the "easier" questions have a correct answer that is worth less, so scores are gonna get capped if all your questions are too easy.

In the theme of the thread....I'll be doing UMAT again this year. Good luck to everyone else going for it. Hope to see you next year!

transferring from dent to med? what UMAT did you get last time?

hahaha nah no way. Mainly a test to see if i do any better for my own curiosity. But if the option came that allowed me to transfer from GU -->UQ than i would have to sit down with my mrs and consider whether we'd uproot and 'waste' a year, move a little closer to family, come out with a MUCH smaller debt, but finish a year later and lose the money/skills i would have earnt/learnt in that year.

But i'm quite happy where i am atm and don't think it'll happen but will cross that bridge if it comes to it.

UMAT i got last time was overal 56 (80%ile)
S1 : 55
S2 : 45
S3 : 67

Did you do any or are you currently doing any prep courses?

I didn't do a prep course as such, but i did get hold of some material and used that. I'm not currently doing any prep at the moment.

do you think the cost (though not much i guess) and the stress are really a good trade for you wanting to transfer?

yeah, i don't think it's all that much stress. I'm only doing 2 subjects at the moment, plus there is a month worth of holidays leading up to the test. I don't think i'll have to do all that much to prepare for it though. An extra year of growth will have done me more good than anything else i think.

lol, no.

I have a friend at UNSW who scored 80th percentile in the UMAT. The beauty of the 1/3 each system is that one crappy score can be offset by two other excellent ones.

ps. It's best not to worry about all of these things. Just focus on studying for the HSC and the UMAT.

Sorry I didn't understand what you were referring to by 'the 1/3 system', would you mind elaborating?

Anyone want to do a ******** group to get it cheaper asap???

btw is it too late to enroll in the course? dw if it isnt, you still have heaps of time

Isn't this spamming for prep courses against rules of this site?

I dont think they meant it to try and promote the course (at least not intentionally) but rather just want to save some money. maybe it still counts

A reminder to all members of this forum that prep course discussion - especially naming prep courses - is NOT ALLOWED on here and can and will get you banned from this forum.

I also wish to make the point also that:

If you think prep works, why would you want to get someone else to do it too, and thus push you down the merit list?

If you don't think prep works, why would you consider doing it and/or advertising it?

Thanks and have a nice day.
