UNSW UNSW Medicine: General Entry Questions and Discussion

Hi,
Does anyone know (or wants to predict) what would be the lowest UCAT / ATAR to get UNSW interview invite for high school leaver from NSW (no EAS, etc)
Would last yrs cut offs around 91 UCAT and 99.25 ATAR be the same this year?

No, we don’t know, there’s not really much point guessing, and last years can be used as a guide but there’s definitely no guarantee they won’t change (and generally the change is towards higher cut offs, though not always).

Hey guys, is it true UNSW have used the same interview questions for the last 2-3 years? Does anyone know where to find these questions?

Not entirely sure if anyone can give you an answer to that question. NDAs have been signed.

hi, do we know around when the interview invites for interstate applicants for UNSW med will come out? (I’m nonstandard from QLD)

In previous years interstate invites were sent at the same time as locals, but subject to later confirmation. Confirmations were sent around the time local offers were released (10ish Jan), because by then UNSW knew the offer cutoff and retracted some interstate invites if their ATAR/UCAT would not be enough even with a top interview.

Hello, I'm a first-year uni student and because of COVID, a lot of my courses were SY graded (no GPA/WAM). So far, only two courses have given me a mark, and my term 3 marks haven't been released yet. In short, I have no idea what my GPA/WAM is.

I've heard that for UNSW medicine, they average your GPA/WAM and ATAR to give you an academic mark, but how is it going to work with someone who studied 1 year full-time but only has marks for two courses so far?

I'm just worried that because on their important dates timeline it says that if they don't have my results, they won't consider me for first round offers. Should I contact them and give them my marks from term 2 just in case? Or is that UAC's job? If anyone could shed some light on this situation, I would be so grateful haha. Thanks!

In a normal year UAC runs an academics update early January. This timing is to collect 2nd semester & IB results in time for offers to be released 10ish January. I don't know what UAC will do this year with COVID disruptions and some students not getting their 3rd trimester results until well into January.

If all your results will be available by early Jan UAC will automatically acquire them, otherwise I suggest you call UAC ask what you should do.

Does anyone know if UNSW chooses the date of interview for you or if you pick yourself and also around what time the invites come out?
It's by booking for NSW students. Interstate students reply to an email picking 4 preferences out of a dozen time slots and someone at UNSW does the arranging.

Release time of day can be random, probably depends when the person pressing the Send button finishes their morning coffee or lunch :)

Just wanted to add to this trend on a friend's behalf, they received a 99.6 ATAR and a 98 UCAT.

Wondering if Situational Judgement is a factor in this years interview offer rounds? They were also wondering if preference order matters because they had UNSW Medicine as 2nd preference.
Thanks!

I have a ATAR of 99.8 and UCAT of 97th percentile and I haven't received an offer for an interview, is this strange?
Of the five UNSW invites posted up so far they all have UCAT 99 or 98, with various ATAR/GPA. Maybe this year UNSW has selected based on UCAT alone? Strange.

I’m not sure about situational judgment, but I don’t think preference matters since I had UNSW as my third preference and got an invite.

seems crazy to have such high UCAT required. Do you think its worth ringing to check there was no mistake?
you should of gotten a rejection email. if you got that then its probably not worth it

I would like to add that my friend received an invite at 99.05 ATAR but a 92 UCAT, he had EAS so most likely bumped to a 99.95 atar? They must b looking at both atar and ucat if EAS is taken into account.

(I received a rejection at 99.10 atar and 96 UCAT)
