UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

For top up invites for UQ, do people actually get below 95 atars? It seems v unlikely that a med applicant has a low atar [without adjustment factors]

This is the first year (at least for as far back as I can recall) that UQ has that system in place (previously there was a strict 99 ATAR hurdle) so it’s anyone’s guess what the lowest feasible ATAR to land a place offer will be this year and beyond. It also comes down to the applicant pool’s interview and UCAT performance and order of uni/course preferences so naturally it will be subject to variation every year.

Adjustment factors are taken into account as well, arent they? You can still be considered with an adjusted 95 atar (eg. 93 +2 subject bonuses). I think the top ups may also be due to people being disqualified due to critical errors in the interview. but its unlikely this is a large number so i really dont see the point of the top up interviews.

Hey so anyone did UQ interviews today? I was lucky to be in one of the additional 33 interview invites...signed an NDA so can't disclose anything. Does anyone know when will we know if we are accepted/rejected?

so what are the 2nd round interviews for? didnt they interview like 500 people for first round?
theres no way more than 360 people get disqualified for low atar and bad interview or something?

Using their system for place offers (25/25/50 ucat/atar/interview respectively), they may have determined that 2980 UCAT required an equivalent selection rank of 99.95 or very close to stand a chance for an offer. Hence, they waited until after atars came out before inviting candidates to ensure that they interviewed people who may be competitive for entry.

How many top up offers are sent usually. My atar and ucat are both above the average numbers from the offers sent today. What would be the likelihood of getting a top up offer?

UQ rarely send top up offers as any shortfalls can be made up with the corresponding graduate entry year. There may be a few but it'll be minimal I suspect (unless the interview introduction changes this up significantly from previous years).

Theres quite a few declines on this forum alone. If thats representative of the wider cohort, half of the class would have to be made from graduate entry students.

The number of declines is pretty normal (and usually very high for UQ). It’s provisional entry, and people tend to prefer direct, by and large.

I saw that UQ doesn't accept gap year students. Do they accept year 13 students (ie. the ones repeating a few subjects to improve atar)?

Yes, I know someone who did and the UQ website defines a school leaver as such

Provisional entry is only available to students who are completing an approved Year 12 program (or equivalent) at the time of their application.

i.e. if your completing a year 12 course, your a school leaver

EDIT APRIL 2023: THIS ENTRY DOESNT WORK ANYMORE, YOU CANT REPEAT YEAR 12

Well they actually over offer significantly to account for this. Generally they aim for ~140 of the 280 domestic students to be provisional entry,

For the 140 prov entry spots, they interviews around 370-400 iirc. And you said they sent 380 provisional entry offers, meaning everyone who interviewed would hav received an offer.

I was also told this morning by uq the average atar and ucat scores of the offers they sent out which they said was approximately 140 people.
