UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

Question - do you only do Level 1 courses in 1st year, Level 2 in 2nd year etc? Or can you do (for example) Level 3 courses in 2nd year (as long as prerequisites are met)?
Afaik provided the course's prereq is met you can do in any year. There's even a hint in the Gemsas guide that where possible do level 2s & 3s early and fit many level 1s into 3rd year. For med schools using Weighted GPA (Year1 * 1 + Year2 * 2 + Year3 * 3) Gemsas counts by the year a course is taken, not by its level. (This is on the assumption level 1s are relatively easier to get higher marks)

Do I have to enroll at UQ by a date? I have accepted it as backup for now and safety just in case, and know about unenrolling before census date, but I'm not sure if there's a date by which I must enrol into an undergraduate course, or my offer is void.

Have a read under "Conditional response, with change (or no change, as is your case) of preference" in this link
> Offers - QTAC

If you're waiting for another offer elsewhere not QTAC, might as well "Outright response" and enroll then your UQ offer won't void.

Hi everyone, I just started the enrolment process and am honestly kinda lost. I'm following the pre-med planner for Bachelor of Science, which suggests BIOL1020 and CHEM1100 as 4 units for Semester 1, but what do I do about the other 2 units? I chose biomedical science as my major where I have to do the above two courses anyways, so if I choose a minor should I just start with whatever courses the minor has? And what about electives? If anyone has any info that would be great; I'm chatting to the student support team right now but they're a little confused too haha

Will there be top-up offers?
Hey Anna12299, I'm praying for top up offers as well. Historically not many people have reported second round offers for UQ here and UQ themselves have said that top ups may be minimal. At the same time, UQ said that they intend to try and fill up spots and QTAC data for 2019 entry (slightly more students who graduated with QCE so hopefully more competitive than this year) suggests 357 total offers for UQ provisional med (bonded and non bonded).

Some people at UQ say 298 offers were released and some say 140 provisional entry offers were released. Not sure what info is the most accurate, but both people said that they released the same number of offers as places available. I guess only time will tell. Maybe the offer round on Friday can give us some more info to work with.

I just find it odd that UQ has said they made 140 provisional offers...
I don't remember UQ doing a (significant) 2nd round of interviews right? In that case UQ may have indeed made only 140-160 provisional offers in the first round.

So far we've seen 7 second-round offers posted - 3 unbonded 4 bonded. The first lot 140 should be around 100 unbonded + 40 bonded, so there must have been at least 40 (probably a lot more) declines for UQ to offer 2nd round unbonded.

Note to UQ 1st round bonded recipients - demand UQ upgrade you to unbonded.

If people have changed preferences in QTAC, it’s unlikely to be as simple as this for all existing BMPs...
That's true. But anecdotally of the three who posted up UQ unbonded offers today none posted a QTAC 1st round offer (that could have prevented a UQ unbonded med 1st round).

SmallBrain appears to have got UQ Dent 1st round. Can SmallBrain please confirm whether you had UQ Dent higher pref than UQ Med for the 1st round, then changed UQ Med to higher for this round?

can confirm my uq med was higher than uq dent for both rounds. I think just a lot of people declined uq this year.

Now that you've got both UQ Dent and UQ Med provisional it's a one-in-a-million opportunity to do both, sequentially.
Don't pass up such a rare opportunity :D

As it says on the planner, it's possible to choose any course as an elective - either from the BSc course list (BiomedSci major courses or from any other major) or general electives (anything from the https://my.uq.edu.au/programs-courses/).

So, you can choose a level 2 or 3 BiomedSci elective (as long as you meet prereqs) for your remaining 2 units or something you are interested in outside of BSc - e.g. a language - it really is up to you!

hey does anyone know about the immunisation requests. I got one since i was previously in dentistry. But now im in prov med and doing biomed so im not starting med for 3 years. Do i still need to submit the form.

Also the dent program still shows up on my program list for some reason even after ive un-enrolled from all the classes. How long before it goes away usually?

Has anyone received a notification to send in an immunisations form? It says its about clinical placements but i dont start medicine until 2024.

also is there a 2 year undergrad at uq to do before med?

Interesting... you definitely don’t need those. It must be a glitch. Are you enrolled in an undergrad degree that has placements?

and no... there is no 2 year undergrad degree, you could *technically* accelerate a BSc over 2 years but iirc your spot in the MD is open from the year you should be graduating your undergrad - not whenever you want it.

im in bsc at the moment so it must have been a glitch then. anyway how do i do the accelerated bsc. Even if i can start med for a year, i wouldnt mind having no uni for a year...
