UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

Yes LMG!’s correct (good investigation skills LMG!) you submit a program change request when you get your offer into the program you want

Thats absolutely false.

ETA: These are the conditions you must comply with... given to Provisional MD students in O-week
View attachment 4725

So *8 units*/4 x 2 unit courses a semester + Strictly >5.0 GPA + You must complete the degree in the minimum amount of time from when you started the provisional program (so e.g. if you complete year 1 of a 3 year BSci degree and swap into a 4 year BPharm, you will have the remaining 3 years to complete said BPharm degree... It's still 4 years total its just 1 year BSci + 3 Years BPharm)
Must be a recent change. I graduated from UQ in 2019 and was the second cohort of people since the MBBS to MD change. I undertook a BSc(major in biomed) as my provisional program and I remember a few of my colleagues (from high school - I went to BGS) who undertook a LLB as their provisional degree and started the MD with me.

Hey,

Does anyone know whether UQ accepts second-time UCAT test-takers?

Thanks for your answer in advance!
Historically, no they have not. I’ve not seen it confirmed again for this year but, if they’ve made no changes, gap year students taking UCAT for the second time (or even gap year students who didn’t take UCAT in year 12) are not eligible.

If you took UCAT in year 11 on the basis of the level of courses you were enrolled in making you eligible to do so, and this year you’re taking it for the second time as a year 12 student, then you are eligible for UQ Med as far as I know.

I believe you can only sit UCAT in year 12... Fittopumpkin are you repeating a year 12 subject? That would make you eligble to have sat the UCAT twice and get entrance to UQ. Otherwise I'd confused with the position you are in.

so gap year students (for students repeating year 12 - like 1/2/3 subjects) can still apply to UQ's provisional MED program? becauase I might have to resit ucat and take a gap year next yr

I was wondering this early on in the year as i know people who have done this and got an offer to UQ. So i contacted UQ and they said "we have closed that loophole". which means even if you resit to get a different atar you aren't applicable.

No, I'm not repeating any subjects but was just asking for a friend. According to flynnscrivo72, it seems its not possible to enter UQ med after repeating year 12 anyways. Is repeating year 12 possible in QLD? Thanks for the help!

Yeah its definetely possible, you just needed to do one subject via TAFE previously for you to count, but UQ not longer accepts that it seems

I think there was someone in a thread the other day who mentioned they sat the UCAT in year 11 because they were doing uni level subjects or something.

Yea unfortunately I’m QLD to get a new atar you need to do at least 3 subjects and all 3 will count towards calculating the new atar as well as your two best from last year. Which is annoying considering in other states one only has to do 1 subject to get a new atar?

Oh wow. I am currently repeating one subject at TAFE, and on QTAC my qualification appears as Australian Year 12 with my school being TAFE. So I thought the gap year rule for UQ Med won't apply to me. I'm very saddened by this knowledge...

But this seems to be the direction UQ is taking - the new Central Queensland Uni + UQ Medicine webpage specifically states you must be completing Year 12 for the first time to be eligible. I guess UQ Med is taking a similar stance. Do you guys know if similar rules apply for UQ Dentistry? Or do they accept gap year / repeat Year 12 applicants?

Yeah that wording definitely indicates that they’re stopping those who have repeated year 12.

UQ Dent accepts non standard so i have no reason to believe they won’t take repeat’ers or gap year’ers

I don't know if this is the right place but I wanted to see if anyone knew how many days of the week I would need to actually travel and attend classes at UQ when doing the MD and also for an undergrad like engineering (honours)? Like are you able to just watch lecture recording most days or do you need to physically be there?

You can look up the course list for your undergrad degree and then plug that into the public timetable (uqplanner.app is a student made one) to see what your workload it like. Lectures are recorded so you can get by but they’re so much better in person.

MD not sure, probably 4-5 days a week

Do you think the cutoffs for UQ interviews will rise significantly, given the places that may have been taken from UQ to set up the new CQU-UQ pathway? I’m thinking if they have fewer undergrad places at UQ they will likely take in a smaller number for interviews this year.
Does anyone know if all 40 places at CQU have come from UQ or if some came from elsewhere eg Flinders?

Places have come from UQ... well in fact theyve gone nowhere, the med part is still UQ.

I'm not sure if theyre taking it from the Provisional entry pool, Grad entry pool, or both. Makes sense both imo.

Does anyone know roughly how many interviews were offered at UQ last year compared to how many place offers?

400 to 500 interviews. Theres 140 places but they over offer to account for people rejecting the course. Not sure how the CQU partnership will change it
