International Students: General Medicine Entry

Yup haha, posted 1.5 hours too soon. Super stoked to have gotten in! Are you accepting?
omg congratulations!!! and yes I AM. I was so surprised when i received the offer too haha! That means we will see each other around campus next year ^^

I think you have to provide your ISAT ID when completing the medicine application portal (MAP)

Has anyone got their med offer from UQ? I got mine today afternoon.

Also I got an offer from UTAS earlier this month, but probably leaning towards UQ right now.

Also, what do you guys normally do when universities that are not your first preference offer you first? If I reject my existing offers, I may risk not getting into the other ones. But if I accept the offers and pay the deposit, would I be allowed to change over later on? Is the deposit refundable?
Hey, I also got a UQ offer, did you accept the offer and receive a coe yet?

Does anyone care to share how much one year in med school costs in Australia as an international student? I'll be applying as an international student in like another 3 years, so I was just wondering. Also, I read a lot of the recent posts on here - congrats to everyone that got an offer! I'm so happy for you :)

Hello, I am an international student who recently did an interview with UNSW in January for medicine. I am yet to hear from them so I logged onto my apply online portal and it says that my application status is "withdrawn", but also says that it was last modified on December 2nd 2022. Which is odd as i received an interview invite on January which is after this modification date. Is this normal or should I contact UNSW to know whats going on?

There could be multiple scenarios like admin stuff going on but definitely contact them just in case- there's no harm so go for it considering the course will starts soon and you also do want the outcome yknow :)) good luck!

is it possible to get a offer this late when sem starts in like a week or so?
It has happened before apparently and some people still unenroll per say to choose another uni etc so I guess just keep your hope up but also think about like a back up option since ur an international student and need visa etc so ....

Depends on the uni and inflation but atm according to websites+ people ur looking at 75-80k per year.

Just got rejected from unsw after interview. Honestly, I really messed up the interview as the questions were rlly random and I couldn't really answer them. Also, my isat was pre poor at 172 but my academics were UK a levels of A*A*A*.

Hi, what was ur isat and how did u think u did in the interviews?
ayo I got the same ISAT but still got into unsw lol so I dont think its the problem ://

hi, i just got accepted into unsw as an international student. Im in a bit of a dilemma because I also got into Auckland medicine this year (2nd year). I am not sure which one to go to, would becoming a doctor at UNSW really be worth it considering the difference in fees (as i will pay domestic fees if i choose to stay in auckland) and other stuff?

Depends on where u want to practice after u graduate. UNSW if u want to come to aus; Auckland if u want to stay in NZ. ( Cuz of internship allocations)

Do you mean as a full-fee international student or "NZ-interstate" CSP student?

If full-fee int'l then internship after graduation is not a sure thing, you need to weigh that up against Auckland.

full fee international student at the moment, but I might be able to change to a domestic by the end of my degree if i get nz citizenship

Congratulations! Just wanting to know if your med offer from UQ was a conditional offer?
Yeah it was a conditional offer, and they asked for the additional documents around a month ago.

Congratulations ! Didn't get an offer for UQ as I didn't apply but maybe you can try finding people who did it in the UQ specific forum. Additionally, if you're still waiting up on an offer from another university, it'd be a great strategy to accept the university that has offered you, and pay the deposit upfront, permitted that you are willing to give up on that deposit money if you eventually get the offer you want. And in the case that you dont get the offer you want, you'll still get to study medicine. The deposit is refundable to an extent but may differ from university to university.
Yeah that’s what I did at the end as well. Thanks for your suggestion.

Yeah I did accept the offer and got my COE. Are you going to UQ at the end?

UNSW int'l fee is $81k/year, x 6 years plus inflation is over half a $million without HECS loans.
You got to be very brave to choose that over domestic Aukland :)

Not to mention the cost of living in Sydney compared to, possibly?, living at home for Auckland if you’re already in the region of that Uni.

mmm yeah, I ended up choosing UNSW, in Sydney right now. When I get my NZ citizenship, how hard will it be to change from full-fee domestic to a commonwealth supported place?

Not an area I’m familiar with at all but reading the UNSW fees policy document, it makes it seem like you’d never be eligible for a CSP, only a FFP domestic place. I have no idea how easy it is to switch to that from international FFP.

I think you will need to reside in NZ to apply for citizenship or at least only short trips outside of NZ. Are you saying you will get NZ citizenship while you are studying in Sydney?
