With a cohort-average interview score, my estimate for a place is mid-99s ATAR + mid-90s UMAT (or 99.0 + 99%ile, or 99.9 + 90%ile).

99.0 + 90%ile normally gets an interview but the interview score will need to be much better than cohort average for a place.
Hi, A1! I note that you are from UNSW. Are you aware of any international med graduates of UNSW who do not get internship this year ?

A1. isn't in regular contact with final year UNSW students so I feel like I can answer this a bit better.

Yes, I am aware of many international med graduates of UNSW who did not get internship *in Australia* this year. However, these students did get an internship in another country (such as Singapore). You'll be able to see a bit more about this in the HETI report when it comes out - last years is at https://www.heti.nsw.gov.au/Global/internship/Outcome Report for 2016 Medical Graduate Recruitment, Prevocational Accreditation, Education and Training 2015.pdf
page 6 (or page 9 if you are using the pdf page numbers) shows you that 46 priority 4 (international students) applied through HETI for an internship in NSW and did not receive one.

I was wondering if there might be a reason that I have received neither a rejection nor invitation for late round UNSW interview? Is this normal?
For reference, my ATAR was 99.25 and UMAT 98.

I would be very concerned that 99.25/98%ile has not heard anything from Unsw. At least you should have received an email saying you are above interview cutoff but wait for confirmation for the 24-Jan interview.

Suggest you call Mr David Boothey of Unsw Med urgently (google for his phone number, I keep mentioning his name here because not only he is super helpful but also says in the video feel free to call him no matter how ridiculous the question).

Thank you, Mana.

That's true. I am in WA and myself and some of my friends (= all who applied to UNSW) received the "above-the-cutoff/wait-for-round 2 invitation (if you qualify)" email on 22 December last :) year
Definitely do contact them

Hi Mana /A1

Could you pls estimate what you consider roughly percentile needed for interview performance -if UMAT 99 and ATAR 98.2 , for Vic non rural, no special conditions, for an offer of place at Monash ?
THanks in advance,

Is it ok if I ask what are the special considerations?

financial hardship, severe family disruption (two different disadvantages under this heading), and excessive family responsibility. That's what I applied for in EAS, I don't know how many of these are applicable under UNSW's ACCESS scheme :P

I don't think JMP states 100% or 50/50 anywhere, it's up to how we each interpret the info on its webpages.

It says Selection process has two criteria: Academic (ATAR/GPA) and Assessment (PQA+MMI).
UMAT is mentioned within the latter explaining how it determines who qualify for the Assessment stage. I interpret that as the full role of UMAT, but won't argue with anyone saying 50/50.
atar /gpa is threshold. interview is called based on umat and then final selection is based only on assessment (PQA+MMI)

Excellent UMAT but the relatively low ATAR is a worry, I would say 60-70%ile interview performance.

Thanks for your estimate, A1. Did you calculate it - if so, how ? :) - I assume you must have, bc you cannot have any data on interview ranking .
Cannot imagine how to apply the 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3, given 99 ATAR is not " equal to " 99 UMAT and ( apart from the actual offer, of course) my interest in this maths question is piqued.

First let me refer you to this old post explaining the method commonly used by Admissions to sum scores of different numerical values (do read the z-score link inside, it's interesting yet simple)
> Interview offers & dates 2016-17 | Page 43 | Med Students Online

My estimation is largely based on UNSW's data from various sources. For example median & lowest scores of successful applicants, @MedDent with 99.95/86%ile was given 50% chance, from the information-evening video a 96.3/100%ile needed a top interview score etc.

This gave a rough idea, going into UNSW final ranking if you have one near bottom score (eg. 96.3) you need the other two scores near top to pull you up to the top third for a place. Juggle a little with interpolation for scores in between.

Having no Monash data I use the same method above then adjust a little to account for Monash's better place ratio. It's by no means scientific, just something to do for fun :D

dear A1 the great moderator, what are chances at UNSW and Monash for 99.3 ATAR, 100 UMAT with no special considerations ? what advice you give for interview ?

Please post again let us know of the circumstances, it helps us answering similar questions in future.
Quick update, after several phone calls and emails I got a response from Sabrina Tyler saying I have not been forgotten and she will write back in due course.

@A1 just wondering (since you like to do this for fun) I have a friend who got 94%ile UMAT with an ATAR of 98.05 who got an interview at Monash. What are his chances of getting in?
Also another friend with 98.95 ATAR and 174 UMAT. What are her chances?
Also me with 199 UMAT and 98.7 ATAR and lots of special considerations which bumps ATAR up to like mid 99s
Thanks

I have a friend who got 94%ile UMAT with an ATAR of 98.05 who got an interview at Monash. What are his chances of getting in?

98.05 & 94%ile : around 20-25% chance
98.95 & 174 (that's around 85%ile isn't it?) : 25-30%

98.7 bumped to mid-99s & 199 : 70-80%

what are chances at UNSW and Monash for 99.3 ATAR, 100 UMAT with no special considerations ? what advice you give for interview ?

UNSW : 60-70% chance, Monash : 70-80%

Sorry I'm not a good person to give interview advice, I struggled through them myself. I only know the standard things like be pleasant, speak with confidence and project a positive image of yourself.

For someone who struggled through interview A1 you seemed to have gotten quite a few offers :)
Monash, UWA, UNSW...
like top unis in each respective state. You must have done well in the interviews :)
