Med and Dent - 2019 Entry (Offers)

Offer Received: No
University: Monash
UMAT: 95th percentile (187)
ATAR: 99.35
Special Considerations: Dean's Rural List, Monash Guarantee.

I have an offer from Adelaide that I have to accept or decline by Friday. Adelaide is my second choice while Monash is my first choice. Looking for some help on how to proceed.

Gosh I know someone interstate who got 99.35 180 and didn’t even get an interview offer for next week...

Accept the offer from Adelaide. If you do receive a second round offer from Monash, you simply need to un-enrol from Adelaide before the census date. Accepting one offer will not influence your chances at another offer.

That's good to hear. I was under the assumption that accepting the offer would eliminate my chances of receiving other offers. Thanks :)
 
What are my chances of receiving a 2nd round offer from Monash?

Sorry, I forgot to include my interview performance.

It was probably pretty bad if I didnt get a 1st round offer, but I'd say I did below average/average on the interview

That was my point, haha! Nobody can really know how they ranked in the interview as the scores aren’t released to applicants.

Generally the offer decline rate at Monash will be low, so if I were you I would take this as a rejection and work towards whatever your plan B is. If you’re fortunate enough to receive a second round offer then it will be a nice surprise for you, but I definitely wouldn’t be banking on it happening, unfortunately.

"You must respond to QTAC within 5 days of offer (22th January) and enrol at Griffith to secure your place."

However, I am still hoping to receive an offer for UNSW Medicine (interviews on 18th January) which UAC offer rounds come out on 25th January (which is after the deadline to accept Griffith University).

Thus, if I were to accept Griffith University Medicine and enrol, would I still be able to withdraw it after 22nd January, if I were to receive an UNSW offer on the 25th January? Thanks.

Other Information: I intend to wait for WA second round offers to see if I get a medicine offer at either Curtin or UWA (my first preferences). But if i do not receive a medicine offer, I will most likely accept my current offer in dentistry.

Btw I have mentioned this a few times here but for the newbies' info, I was also rejected by Flinders with 99.80 & S1+S2=156. Whereas that same year a 99.85 S1+S2=126 got an offer. What this shows is my 30 UMAT marks advantage was outweighed by his 0.05 higher ATAR. By extension a 99.95 should get Flinders with S1+S2 less than 70, but it never works out that way.

He is referring to the number of interviewees per number of places. So if the ratio at Adelaide is 1:6, it means that for every 6 interviewees, there is one place for an actual offer.

Hi AgentWin,

That seems to make sense, although the QTAC clumps them together in the phrasing "You must respond to QTAC within 5 days of offer and enrol at Griffith to secure your place." Where you don't really know whether enrolling is part of the "5 days" or enrolling is just to "secure your place".

That said, either way, I think it'd be good to accept AND enrol, and then withdraw if another offer from your home state comes out.
