Offers UTAS 2017 (Discussion)

Yeah it's a toughie, based on this and previous years non standard offers I was feeling pretty good with a 99 umat (71 s2) and 81 Wam, but still nothing

Are you still hoping predominantly for UNSW?

ETA: and yeah, I'm definitely starting to prepare for a 2017 that looks very different to what I'd hoped. My 7.0GPA/92UMAT (66s2) looks woefully far from mark. Here's hoping my Rural status gets me over the line, but no longer counting on it despite a friend getting in recently (current student) with GPA less than mine and 67UMAT (?s2).

Yea same, friend of mine got an offer last year with less 96 UMAT and 62 S2. I thought I had a solid shot this year. Regret not applying to the new med school in WA now.

Yes, it seems this is the case this year. My S2 of 81 (99th;61,81,62) and GPA 6.7 hasn't received an offer either.
Atleast we know your next in line xD I've still got 2 percentiles invetween. My biggest issue is that we don't know if there are going to be more rounds. Atleast with other med schools we have a given date where we find out.
UTAS stuck with dates for school leavers but for non-standards it's all over the place, and no one knows what's going on. We be stuck in limbo wondering will offers come out today or not.

Your friend who is a current student LMG, are they coming from one of the pathway courses? Those offers go out in December usually and are considered a different quota to non-standards. My problem is that I have completed one of those courses but because I did honours I am not considered under the pathway and thrown in with the non-standards. Getting very frustrated that we haven't heard anything by now! (I'm waiting with First Class Honours and a 93%ile)

Traditionally offers would come out after 3pm on Fridays, so here's hoping tomorrow is the day!

She did complete an eligible 'competitive entry pathway' degree but her results did not place her in the top 5 or 10 or whatever the quota was and so she was considered in with the pool of other non-standard applicants. She got a bonded place.

She got her offer in mid-January (and is still thoroughly convinced it's a matter of when, not if, for me and an offer of some kind).

That's interesting! I've heard in previous years that for current students that are not in the pathway or completed their studies there is a quota of two places but that could be outdated information.

I dare say she is right, and I'm of the opinion that no news is good news at this stage!

ETA: The pathway places do have quite a large number of rejections by final year students who have already received offers in graduate medical programs. Your friend may even find her bonded place is bumped up before she begins the course!

I'm not sure I understand that quota you're talking about. Are you surprised she was considered to be regular non-standard?

There is apparently a few places designated for current students who are not enrolled in the pathway courses (e.g. Psychology). They would be part of the non-standard quota regardless.

Only because I haven't heard of UTAS considering students under more than one quota before but considering how sketchy their admissions process is, I can't say that I'm overly surprised!

If there are places set aside for current students that include Psychology for example, then UTAS have certainly not published it (that I've ever read - and I spent 9.5 years in the School of Psych).

I don't think my friend applied to be considered under the competitive entry pathway because she knew wasn't in the top x amount (I don't actually know what the quota is).

Yeah, I had a friend in psych who was told that by admissions in 2014. So who knows.

Oh you don't apply specifically for that pathway. You just apply normally and the admissions sort you out into the appropriate group. UTAS began that pathway with 10 places but they now advertise it as 'up to five' so how many they actually offer is anyone's guess.

Did get the offer for BMedRes today so thats my backup route to medicine if I don't get the offer for MBBS. Fingers and toes crossed still.

I guess that confirms our thoughts from yesterday that the temporary message on your application was re. offers for BMedRes. Here's to hoping for Med still though :)

I received an email from UTAS '7 reasons to study at UTAS'. I'm like only need 1 at this point, an offer lmao.

I was commenting on hatbox last night during the cricket that UTAS were torturing me with constant ads for why choose to study there. My declaration to them, via hatbox was "I'M TRYING, YOU JERKS!"

And @Littlebitsofgood reported getting the same email.

UTAS be trollin'.

You better show some evidence of this in form of a picture, right now!!!

I second this request for a picture of your cute dog @LMG :)

I also received the '7 Reasons' email. I was so excited to see an email from UTAS then equal parts disappointed and annoyed when I saw the subject :(
