2020 MSO average was 120 higher than 2019 MSO average, turned out 2020 real percentile scores were ~100pts higher than 2019 scores. So there was an unscientific correlation

Hey A1, not sure if I've got something confused but I thought last years actual 90th was 2920 and 2019s was 2850? At least thats what it says for the official stats. I know its not that big of a difference but I'm trying to figure out the correlation between WSU's threshold increase and the increase in 90th percentileucatboy see what I told ya !!
2019 MSO average 2860 , actual 90%ile 2830
2020 MSO average 2980 (+120) , actual 90%ile 2930 (+100)
2021 MSO average 2999 (+19) , prelim 90%ile 2960 (+30)
And you didn't believe me there was a correlation![]()
It did, by 10-20pts. Prelim 2020 first showed 90%ile = 2940, official later = 2930, then later dropped again to 2920.Also, did the percentiles change much from prelim to actual stats last year (if at all)?

You're looking at a "spreading out" of scores, as in people's performances have varied more this year. The average is similar but there were more extremely high and low scores.Hm. Looking at the stats it seems there wasn't any significant change from <50th percentile. However, as we look at the 60th percentile and above, there were small increases in values (+10) for 60th, (+20) for 70th, (+30) for 80th, with the largest being a (+40) change for the 90th percentile.
I'm no stats expert, so I'm wondering why this would be the case? Why does it increase on the higher end but remain unchanged for the lower end?
I mean, with all the COVID stuff obviously, they are not factoring in quite a sizeable portion of the UCAT cohort. Assuming 3k people left (to have a grand total of 14k), that's around 20% of the entire cohort's marks being ignored from the calculation.I mean they say "we do not expect final figures to differ much from those presented here", based on that I wouldnt expect the final figures to differ that much![]()
Yeah but it's unlikely that the remaining 3k sitters perform drastically differently to the other 11k, although now that you mention it, I assume the majority are NSWers and they generally tend to be more academically inclined so if anything...I mean, with all the COVID stuff obviously, they are forgetting to factor in quite a sizeable portion of the UCAT cohort. Oh god, I think that would drive NSWers' ego so high...I’d like to see a state by state UCAT score breakdown tbh! I think it would be interesting
Y'all already have a results thread and I'm still waiting to do my exam...I'm so anxious because of all this COVID stuff and with the percentiles increasing, I guess it's making me feel more nervous. I just really wanted to get this over and done with and move on and just relax...UCAT Results Discussion 2021

Haha. But if you work on your Year 12 results, you can still make it to Griffith, USYD and Flinders!goodbye med, it was nice knowing you (never knew it in the first place lol)
As someone with 3000, I hope notWould the JMP cut-off still be 93rd percentile so around 3010? Or what others factors can affect that?
Yes I just checked and saw them. Percentiles haven’t increased by as much as everyone thought they might.
