UQ UQ Medicine: Provisional Entry Questions and Discussion

I heard there is 2 years internship rather than 1 year after graduating in Uq . Is it true?

In terms of the requirement to progress from provisional to full registration with AHPRA it's one year internship. There have been talks about making it two years but nothing official yet.

If the State Health dept gives you a one or two or three year contract it's one year being an intern plus the other year(s) being resident.

Can any seniors who went through 3 years of BSc or biomed before MD share insights on how to create new long lasting friendships during this period? I'm interstate with no friends, plus the structure of BSc (so many major/subjects, different lectures date options etc.) makes it seem like it will be really difficult to make and maintain new long lasting friends in class (especially for an introverted person like me)

Interestingly when i was looking whether i needed a 5 unweighted or weighted GPA i found a document saying that the ATAR was 99.05 not 99.00 so i asked UQ admissions and they just told me that the ATAR has been reduced to 95 for provisional entry from 2021 onwards due to the inclusion of the interview.

That's huge 😮😮

Looks like UQ admissions will start looking like JMP and WSU except now with HL maths (or equivalent) and a second language, 91.00 could very well be the raw ATAR hurdle (even lower than JMP and WSU).

I wonder whether place offer selection will be determined 100% by interview or something like 50% UCAT 50% interview.

It's worth noting that the introduction of the interview marks the end of UQ being a "safe bet" for many med applicants.

If you follow how they consider grad entry as 25% GPA 25% UCAT 25% Interview so it might be the same for provisional entry.

Given that they might include ATAR in the final place calculation i suspect the required entry is still going to be 97/98+ but yes UQ is now no longer a 'safe bet'

What is the other 25%?

What is the other 25%?

wow my brain is not working at all today. What it’s meant to say is graduate entry is:
50% Interview
25% GPA
25% GAMSAT

so I suspect provisional entry is
50% Interview
25% ATAR
25% UCAT

Oh good! I was quite confused :D

Thanks for the clarification for those reading along!

Is it also true that the atar will still remain as as hurdle and that offers will be given out 100% on UCAT results?

Offers? No, interview will definitely play a role in offers. As for interview invites, a hurdle of 95.00 has been indicated, I believe. We don’t know how many people UQ intend to interview, so it’s also unknown whether interview criteria will include multiple factors. There is speculation above, and some correspondence.

For interview invite, will UCAT still be used in isolation?

Ah I see thanks!
The email said you will only need to meet the atar requirement of 95 now instead of 99. So this means that after the interview, as long as the 95 atar is met, it wont matter in terms of selection?

read the discussion after i sent that image

Well it only helps get you past the 99 ATAR hurdle for UQ med/dent - it won’t help with any other med/dent courses.
So a 97 atar and a 95th percentile UCAT should give me a spot in UQ med?
