surely studying science-related subjects such as biology or chemistry increases the likelihood of a person getting an offer? I mean, it must help in an interview being able to talk about how interested you are in science and that kind of stuff. I'm studying chemistry and biology as well as two university subjects; both medical-related (for those who are interested MMED1005 and MMED1007). Will this benefit me? Also if I get accepted will I have to do those subjects again, or will they be recognized by the uni?

It just so happens that a lot of the people who get high ATARs (which improves their prospects for medicine) did science and maths subjects, as they generally scale well. I wouldn't necessarily say that doing those subjects would improve your interview though because a) like I already said, everyone around you in the interview waiting room probably did 2+ of the same subjects but b) that's quite a superficial reason for studying medicine and not something you could talk about for more than a sentence or two. What if the interviewer followed up your answer with the question "If you're so interested in science, why don't you become a scientist?".

Most if not all med programs don't recognise previous tertiary study, the course is very streamlined and pretty much the same for everyone.

We dont know whats 'high' and whats 'low' until the dust settles. We predicted this year the cut off would be ~93rd and it looks around that. Would be great if any NSW or rural students who havent got interviews yet gave their scores in the interview thread

I got a 2880 and no invite, so non-rural the cut off is somewhere between that and 2980

i got a ucat of 2890 and was planning on making jmp my number 1 preference, should i be sweating since I am a non-rural interstate student for this yr?

Don't worry about your UCAT score as of yet. Percentiles haven't been released yet.

UWS/UNSW seem unlikely because you're not GWS and UNSW is quite strict on their atar threshold (96 i believe). You could get an interview at JMP, although in 2020 they were 93+ percentile I believe (I'm banking on them reverting back to 90+ percentile like it historically has been). Not sure if Curtin/UQ/Griffith take non-standards honestly, somebody else should clarify on this. Good luck!

Given the changes they made last year are still in place (preferential treatment of current UoN students), I’m not convinced it’ll drop back to 90th but some movement is definitely possible.

i think from the last few years the percentiles usually have drop 10-20 points from the year before so hopefully it does this year too and boosts your score to 93. But with that being said this year is different with lockdown so who knows what happens

Yes. I suppose it’s all just speculation and hoping until offers come.

That’s true. It’s such a weird period with date changes, longer testing period, now home based. Who knows what will happen

ahahaha yeah that's just me wishing for a JMP interview since I'm at a 90-91st percentile lol. Correct me if I'm wrong but before last year JMP used to be 90+ percentile

(My marks are too low for any other non-standard university entry).

Hey mate, the way I see it you never know if you were gonna get an interview unless you apply in the first place. Also, we've all probably already spent hundreds on UCAT prep in the first place, what's another $85 on top of that? so yeah, I would apply if I were you, especially coz you're so close to the threshold.

P.S. I didn't know this till recently but if you have a mad VR mark you might be in the running for WSU (JPM)

Do they follow the same selection process as wsu/csu in that ucat is the determinant for interview invite but decreases in significance after?

Yes, it’s a threshold. It decreases in significance to the point of being a hurdle only.

You only need a UCAT score equal or higher than the cutoff (non-ruarl 93%ile last year) to get an interview. After that UCAT doesn't count so doesn't matter how high above the cutoff.

What is the equivalent of 1 FTE? I am about to complete my first year of uni (8 units) but might be failing one unit this sem. Would I still qualify to apply as a nonstandard applicant if my academic results still meet the credit score average threshold?

Yes, if you complete the 8 units, whether you pass or fail you’ve done 1FTE. And as long as your overall GPA by year’s end is above the hurdle required, you can still be eligible for an offer.

Ah okay, so it's a matter of having done 1 FTE/ 8 units rather than successfully/passing completing it? if that makes sense. Believe it or not it's for a unit that required a hurdle quiz to be completed, and I had missed one question due to technical errors, and was told there is nothing they could do about it.
